Hello Pilots, I currently fly a Nighthawk for L4 mission running. However, I now have the need to make it into a PvP boat. I have plenty of ISKies, so buying a second hull is no problem. I was wondering: what are some good suggestions for a PvP fit Nighthawk? It needs to have considerable tank (passive or active), high dps, and some speed would be nice. Assume that tackle/TP support is provided.
With HAM IIs, passive fit and 2 BCS, I've been able to squeeze over 600 dps out of it whilst keeping an EHP of over 40k, passive regen of 100 hp/s, resists all in the 80s. Here's the fit I've been able to come up with:
6x HAM II - Scourge Rage Heavy Assault Missile
2x Large Shield Extender II 1x Shield Recharger II 2x Adaptive Invulnerability Field II
2x Shield Power Relay II 2x Ballistics Control System II 1x Reactor Control Unit II
2x Medium Core Defense Field Purger I
Now I know immediately that you're going to complain about the lack of speed and the need for a prop mod using HAMs, but remember - the enemy is tackled. Let's assume the target is something battleship-class. I need to be able to tank Battleship-class weaponry for a bit and do some serious damage. Having extra PG and CPU for a command link up top would also be excellent. I would also like to see your suggestions for a solo PvP fit NH, which would need it's own tackle and TP. Also, if the NH really doesn't fit either of these roles well, I'm open for criticism and suggestions for how it should be utilized in PvP |

You really do need prop for PvP - especially for HAMS. Even if there is someone else to tackle. If the target burns away your tackle will be dead before you get range - prop is a must. If you don't have it - don't pvp.
Not saying the next bit is right - it's just how I would approach it.
I would swap the purgers for extenders. Then remove the Shield Re-chargers and the Power Relays - maybe put warp disruptor and web in mids. Add a DCII and another BCII in lows.
See if the Reactor Control can be swapped out for a Power Diagnostic System (or removed completely for a nano) - they dont give as much pg but they give some shield and cap as well. If you dont need either - nano will pay off.
I try to fit for buffer/resists a bit more than recharge for PvP so that being neuted doesn't mean dying. Buffer also lasts longer against high dps.
In all honesty - Just buy a Drake.
585-650DPS 70-80K EHP depending on preference/skills.
A pvp fit battleship will still win anyhow - unless you find someone really stupid or someone who makes a mistake like burns out their weapons.

Pretty much this
It's unfortunate that the NH is the weakest of the class and is simply not cost effective when you consider the Drake or the other CS
Absolution has a great balance of tank and spank. asb Sleipner is superb as long as the incoming DPS isn't too high. Astarte DPS is king as long as your targets are as slow as you are
The NH deficiencies have been raised before. Just to make it competitive with its counterparts, making the 5% per CS level damage bonus to all types and not just Kin, as well as adding a mid for utility, would help this ship

Nighthawk is bad, do not fly one in pvp. That's all the advice I can give you. |

Whats the point in using a Nighthawk for pvp if your not fleet boosting? |

Pretty sure you've got the nighthawk and vulture mixed up here. NH is a field command, essentially a big hac with worse resistances, and a bigger sig. Vulture is the fleet command that can fit up to 3 links w/o command procs while also have a 3% per level bonus to siege links. |

OP's fit.
[Nighthawk, HAM] Damage Control II Ballistic Control System II Ballistic Control System II Ballistic Control System II Reactor Control Unit I
Experimental 10MN MicroWarpdrive I Warp Disruptor II Large Shield Extender II Adaptive Invulnerability Field II EM Ward Field II
Heavy Assault Missile Launcher II, Scourge Rage Heavy Assault Missile Heavy Assault Missile Launcher II, Scourge Rage Heavy Assault Missile Heavy Assault Missile Launcher II, Scourge Rage Heavy Assault Missile Heavy Assault Missile Launcher II, Scourge Rage Heavy Assault Missile Heavy Assault Missile Launcher II, Scourge Rage Heavy Assault Missile Heavy Assault Missile Launcher II, Scourge Rage Heavy Assault Missile [empty high slot]
Medium Core Defense Field Extender I Medium Core Defense Field Extender I
Note the absence of SPRs, purger rigs or shield rechargers... Also note that a Drake has the same EHP, more tackle and 88% of the missile DPS, for a tiny fraction of the cost. Seriously, wait until command ships are fixed. |
