We cant see your pic yet m8 so dunno what race you are.
Caldari - Kestral Amarr - Punisher Gallante - Tristram(sp) Minm - Rifter
there not bad starting ships m8. you will need the race frig level @ 3 to fly them. if you want any help on the setups goto the ships thread and have a look at the stickies.

To be honest, every ship is pretty adequate. But probably the most efficient thing is to pick something you can resell. Being able to afford insurance is a concern as well unless you are doing say, courier missions, or some other low risk profession. I don't know what ethnicity you started out with because I can't see your portrait. The more expensive the ship is, the more likely you can resell it quickly if you don't like it. Most of the cash you dump in a ship doesn't go into the hull at all.
When you get right down to it, almost any tech1 frigate is a surprisingly reliable platform for killing npcs all the way down to 0.1 or level 1 or 2 combat missions. All frigs and cruisers are largely throwaway vessels for PvP at the moment if that is your career path.
Ships groups and generalizations: Amarr: Executioner(speed) or Punisher(tank&dmg) -Most straitforward approach to combat. Caldari: Kestrel(missiles) or Merlin(turrets&range&tank Gallente: Incursus(dmg) or Tristan(highly modular) -More complex and comprehensive approach to combat. Minmatar: Breacher(missiles) or Rifter (dmg&speed) -Specialist approach to combat, little middle ground on any modules.

Also, it depends what you're doing. The Imicus is the Gallente mining frigate, and has a farily good cargo hold for a Gallente ship. So if you're mining or doing courier missions, it'll be better at it than the Incursus or Tristan.

The incursus is quick for a non-minmatar frigate, and with a bit of investment into gunnary skills, does pretty nice damage. It's also fairly cheap. That's what I'd reccomend for a gallente upgrade, try 125mm rails and a 1mn AB, and fight at 10k. Use a small armor repairer for tanking, and watch your cap.

Gallente, if you're going to be mining at all, get an Imicus, by far one of the best gallente frigates there is. Pair of basic cargo expanders gets you nearly 450 m3 cargo space, and 250 for drones as well. You can equip 2 miner 1s and not worry about rats because your drones can take care of them. I reccommend a pair of med scouts, they handle themselves pretty well in any sec above .5 I think.

Being a strictly PVP player, I would recommend the incursurus over the tristan.
The trist is a little too sluggish and if you come up against a BS with any kind of tracking, you will die.
Also the incursurus does better damage and is a little cheaper. Definitlely train gallente frigs up though, it paves the way to some of the best friggies in the game: The all singing all dancing incursurs or the unbreakable enyo.
The choice between rails and blasters is a tricky one, it depends on your style of combat. I personally like to watch em fry from up close, so use blasters. Others like to zip round at range, in which case rails. THe only problem with that is you'll need a 20k scrambler which will suck your cap in no time
I use incursurses a lot, as they are quick and surprisingly tough.
At the end of the day, it doesnt matter what I or anyone else says, play your cards right and you'll have friggies coming out of your arse befor you know it.
Fly safe.

The Incursus is a real great ship. It runs with nearly 600 m/s with a cheap Afterburner for a long time. And it can carry quiet a punsh.
( 1x 150mm compressed Rail I with Antimatter charges and 2x anode light electron particle cannon's I with Plutonium charges are good to harvest NPC-Pirates)

I don't recommend the above setup, I strongly advise picking a type of weapon (in this case rails or blaster) and sticking to it. This way you always have the same approach in a combat situation. Got blasters? Get in their face and watch em fry! Got rails? stay at range and watch for the fireworks. Dont mix long and short range weapons, because whatever range you are at, your damage output will be hampered.
No offence deadeye.

Not between blasters and rails, or autocannons and artillery. Maybe with beams and pulse. But in any event, you'll be pretty gimped.
