Trying to set up a shared internet connection and get my other account on the 2nd computer. I have the 2 comps on a lan with the 2nd gaining internet access through the first.
Both comps connect to the internet and can surf the net using IE just fine. I DL'd the client to comp2 and installed it and DX9c.
Comp1 surfs net and runs eve fine. It connects to cable modem via usb. It also connects the lan via 10/100 cat5 through a hub.
Comp2 surfs net but the eve client gives that "unable to connect to blah blah" message at the startup screen. It connects to the lan via 10/100 cat5 through a hub.
Notes: comp2 was just built and has bare requirements to play eve (have used same equipment previously to play eve).
The lan was just setup and only shares internet access but can't connect the two comps to share files or even see each other... dunno, drives me nuts.
I don't understand how comp2 can surf the net but it appears that eve client doesnt see the internet connection for some reason. After messing with this thing for 10 hours or so I'm on the verge of insanity... don't know how much longer I can resist the voices.... HELP!!!

Hmm, all the computers in my house work fine with EVE.
I have it set-up with the modem connected to the router and all computers connected to the router. You could try that..?

Wait, do both of your comps go through a hub or do you have a master machine w/the access but also connected by hub to (an)other machine(s) in your home?

Both comps are connected via 10/100 cards and cat5 cables through a hub. The reason for the hub is I eventually want to hook the kids comp to the network.
The primary comp is hooked to the cable modem through USB. It's network settings are "this comp connects directly to the internet and other comps on the network connect to the internet through this comp".
The secondary comp (the one having the probs) is only connected to the lan network and its metwork is set up as "this comp connects to the internet through another comp".
I thought windows was supposed to have easy networking setup however it's been nothing but a nightmare. Had the secondary connected for a while (apparently just by rebooting a few times) BUT as soon as I rebooted again it won't connect to the internet anymore.

Update: Read a bunch of junk on the net although couldnt find a good "how to network" site, (anyone know any good ones?).
Since a direct cable connection between two comps (no hub)requiresa twisted cat5 I figured I would try a twisted cat5 from comp1 to the "uplink" port on the hub and a normal cat5 from the hub to comp2. At first boot it didnt work but after I took win explorer (with both comps) to "my network places" and forced them to locate the network and see each other I was able to connect to the net with both comps.
Then with fingers crossed I rebooted, took comp1 to "my network places" and located both comps and confirmed internet connection.
I then took comp2 to "my network places" but couldnt force windows explorer to see either comp on the network. Of course it didnt have internet connection either. After a few more attempts it remains this way.... ARRRGGGGG. Why would it work once and then with no changes accept rebooting both comps (in sequence) it fails to work?

Found the problem. Although I had configured the network card as "the safe zone" in my zonealarm firewall runing on comp1 (the internet source for comp2) it was still blocking access from comp2.
No matter what I tried the only way to allow comp2 access to the internet was to completely shutdown zonealarm and use windows built-in firewall (which from what I hear is a crap firewall but is better then nothing I guess).
I'll contact zonealarm tech support to find a work around for this prob but wanted to let anyone following this story know what the problem was in case they run into a similar problem themselves.
