I am very new to Eve. I just upgraded from the trial to a paid subscription. I am in the beginning of the SOE epic arc and find I am running all over Gallente space [Essence]. The running around is fine. I enjoy missions & exploration.
I have moved all the ships & items once and found it quite tedious. I was planning to move all the ships & items to Arnon which I thought would be the base system for the SOE epic arc missions. But, around mission 10 or so, I got sent 8-9 jumps away to Haerent [sp?].
The mission I just did [#14] there really tested my frigate [Atron]. I had to dock twice to repair in order to complete the mission without losing the ship. I don't really want to take the Atron back to Arnon & pickup a destroyer just to find the next few missions are too easy with a destroyer. I could package a few ships and move them over to Haerent but that just scatters my assets over yet another system.
I enjoy the mission running & exploration aspects of the game. I am afraid the logistics of keeping all the ships and gear in one place will prove too painful. Playing freight company with an Iteron to move things around is not appealing even with the spice of a possible gank by a bored veteran.
So what would you advise.. keep all the ships & items in one place? or leave things where ever game play takes me?
As a follow on, is there any way other than the Assets window to see where I have items?
Some kind of search would be nice. |

A home base is nice to have once you join a corp, as all the corps I've been in base their operations out of a certain system. I just recently moved to join a new corp, but before I did, I had a home base in Orduin and several secondary bases, where I would run missions from, a few jumps away.
Moving all your stuff to do the Epic Mission Arc will just be a pain, though. That mission takes you all over the place, and if you move everything to each place it takes you, you'll waste a lot of time.
Leaving everything all over the place might be easiest in the short term, but it will eventually result in massive disorganization. That means you won't be able to find stuff when you really need it. Keeping a base might seem like a pain, but it is necessary. And once you get used to it, it's easier than just leaving crap around. http://eve-sojourn.blogspot.com/

The SoE is kind of gigantic circle which will take you into all of the four empire faction territories only to end back near Arnon, so hauling all your stuff along is not necessary.
Another question altogether is the appropriate ship to do the SoE, where I belive an Atron is a bit weak. Personally, I used a destroyer with little problems except two particular missions, "Burning down the Hive" where you get scrammed by a rat and of course the last mission where I seriously doubt an Atron has the firepower needed to finish it. But, as mentioned above that one is near Arnon again.
Other than that, personally I like to keep my stuff together so i agree with Ilnaurk. Forum-unbanned since 2011.10.20. |

There's no way an Atron will be enough on the final mission, and you'll probably need help on "Burning Down the Hive" as well. I lost my first Thrasher in Burning Down the Hive, and even a Tech II - fitted Jaguar wasn't enough to bring down the final mission rat. I think I was using Barrage in the guns, but it's still way more than an Atron could do DPS wise.
You'll probably want a cruiser if you want to be able to solo all of the Epic Mission Arc missions. I had to go get my Stabber to finish it. You could also ask for help in local, but there might not be someone around who's willing. http://eve-sojourn.blogspot.com/

By the time I was done w/ SoE, I had stuff all over the place. Consolidation was a pain and an entire evening of play time. Now, that I've settled in, I have 3 bases. One near a hub, another 6-8 jumps away for missions and other stuff and one just inside of low, for when I'm feeling froggy.
If you're like me, you'll end up with 1 or ships useful at each base. Don't underestimate the value of shuttles. Cheap and quick. In my experience, auto-piloting a shuttle in hi-sec is safe (YMMV). EvE, it's all about tear managment. |

It is far easier to keep your stuff together in one or two stations. The SOE epic arc has no expiry so take your time with it. Concentrate on your main ISK-making enterprise and training.
The Atron will have to be parked for SOE. Use it for moving your loot as it has a nice little cargo bay, and is fast.
The end of SOE-arc is the demise of many a new player. Try tackling it later when you have a bigger, badder ship. The vexor will do it nicely (use the drones). The catalyst with a nosferatu works, too. Or you can try "invite (to fleet)" an experienced player who is hanging around (probably trying to recruit newbies) to do the tougher two levels for you. Always brings a smile to see that request pop up on local.
SOE-arc is kinda a right-of-passage thing. So enjoy.
Oscillate all EVE systems (-1.0-áthrough 1.0, and back) over a ten year period; modified +/- by # of pod kills. Disentrench the older players! Improve game dynamic.

The Assets window has some minimal sort options. Some kind of search would be nice. There's a search button in the Assets window.
I agree with the remarks made above that the Atron isn't strong enough for the whole Arc. If you're limited to Gallente an Incursus would be better, or use the Catalyst you got from the Advanced Military tutorial.
Insure your ship before doing Burning Down the Hive, kite the nearest group of drones away from the other group and target 'Strain' drones first, keeping well out of scramble and web range. Don't go near the second group until you've got rid of all the first and, again, prioritise the Strains.
Good luck! |

EVE gets boring very fast if you only live in 1 place and do 1 thing.
I generally keep a "mission HQ" in a mission system with mission stuff there.
I have a "mining HQ" in systems I mine in with mining stuff there.
I have a few "PvP bases" where I keep ships and modules for pew pewing.

Thanks for all the input. I sure have plenty to think about now.
I knew the Atron is limited in how long I could use it. I just like the way it looks and wanted to see how long I could continue with it. Now that I have reached point, I'll move on to my Catalyst until I progress to something else. I do have a fondness for the frigate class and will continue to test when I can use one. Of that means I will lose some of them but hey, que sera sera.
In the short term, I'll try to go with the flow of the SOE epic arc but not keep moving my HQ. I may do a little occasional re-organizing along the way but I won't get carried away.
After SOE finishes, I'll probably go down the path of a "mission HQ", a "mining HQ, and a "PVP HQ" rather than try to maintain the one BIG HQ to rule them all. |

Don't hang up the Atron entirely, it's. fun little ship to haul around in and try to pew folk with. You just may decide to keep it parked near low sec while finishing your missions with bigger ships.
Your bases will tend to make themselves as you park ships around areas you do different things in.

I have a number of "homes" around the place. The only place that's really home for me anymore is the ship I happen to be flying at the time. Until you can fly an Orca, you will find that you'll have little caches of stuff around the place that you keep coming back to. Don't stress about it too much. Try the following searches:
- blueprint: name
- category: name (e.g.: "category: charge" to find charges & ammunition, though no variant of "ammunition" works)
- constellation: name
- group: name (e.g.: "group: heavy" to get heavy missiles, heavy missile launchers, heavy assault launchers)
- maximum: number (stacks with at most number items)
- maxsecurity: number (e.g.: "maxsecurity: 7" to find all your assets in stations at or under sec status 0.7)
- metagroup: label (e.g.: "metagroup: faction" to find all faction items)
- metalevel: number (e.g.: "metalevel: 5" to find all T2 items, but use 'techlevel:' for that)
- minimum: number
- region: name
- security: label (e.g.: "security: empire")
- solarsystem: name (e.g.: "solarsystem:
- station: name
- techlevel: number (e.g: "techlevel: 3" for all your Tengus)
- type: name ( GǪ I'm not too sure about this one)
What I haven't figured out yet is whether you can combine searches (e.g.: to find all my T3 ships in low sec). I've tried, but I'm probably doing something wrong.
The folks in the UI team at CCP have done a particularly fine job with the Assets window. Make sure to let them know you like the work they've done! Day 0 advice for new players: Day 0 Advice for New Players |

The SoE epic arc has you running all over. During that epic arc, cary everything with you, or just reprocess/sell off the unimportant stuff that you do not need.
After completing that arc and you are settling down to the endless grind, then you can home base. |

Until you get an idea for a 'home' area only carry around what you need. I have about five main 'home' areas, two in low sec and three in high-sec and I just jump clone to the one I want to be in that day. It can be a bit of a headache for the OCD types, but you get used to it after a while.
