The solution to most of the whining is easy, next time when applying a new patch just tell everybody the server will be down for 24 hours and if it is up before that time everybody will be happy that its up so much sooner then expected.

Whats not fair.
All im saying is rather than **** people around (as 'allways' happens), im saying take the bugger down... all the fanboys that like sucking on ccp's backside can have the server to themselfs for the day and test to there hearts content.
I realy don't feel like ccp are doing me any favours by 'offering' this kind gesture of a free day, id rather it be writen in stone, saves all the arguements.. ccp staff and support crew ain't working overtime, along with the dev team....
Id rather they just do that, rather than the same old **** over and over again.

well - i had planned to complete 2 agent missions this evening, one storyline and one level 4, and as much as i wasnts expecting the server up at the published time, i thought a few hrs later would be ok. i assume the GMS will 'complete' these missions for me successfully!!!! -
on a seperate note, although it appears that this has been the largest unexpected problem from a patch since eve was retailed, on the whole i have found ALL that ccp have done in regard to patches as both efficent and exceptional technically, and utterly fair financially.

You will be surprised....i can already figure out at least 2 major reasons that will make players whine over just that...
1. Some players got all the good stuff, just because the camped the servers 5 hours before scheduled online.
2. Some players camped the servers for 5+ hours, and they did not come online earlier than scheduled.

When I was able to log in, I went out to a belt and let out my drones. I was in a Vexor and can control 15 scout drones. When I launched the drones only one came out instead of all of them. I did it again and another came out... about 45 seconds later. I continued that process, launch, wait, launch wait until the fifth drone was out then I crashed.

Its patch day...deal with it.
We lose 1 day to patching, ccp give us 1 day back.
Just give the ccp guys a chance to sort things, then we can all play happily for a long time until the next patch.
Im not going to stop playing..i hope the rest of you dont either.
The majority of us love this game, so lets give it a chance to recover from the 'cold' its just caught. :)

The statement from the Dev Team concerning this situation made me twitch in pain. Doing two different upgrades/changes to a productive server environment? Patching the main server application and doing a hardware update at the same time? That's some nice IT russian roulette here...
Don't get me wrong: I love the game and i am impressed how such a "small" company can put something like this together.... but this is a cardinal error. You ought to know better. Let the consequences be two seperate long downtimes... but one just doesn't change two parameters at the same time in a productive environment...

You destroyed eve.evehomeworld with 5.7gig of data in under 20min, and 3000 unique hits on the patch file.
And the blueyonder.co.uk host was uploading at a meg per second for almost 2 hours :o and is still doin 500kb per sec.
^_^ Ill be doing the same every patch day :) Enjoy the new found speed of downloads :P

Oh, and while I do appreciate the free day, it's be even more awesome (and less expensive in RL terms) to give us all a free day of skill training (say announced for 2 days from now, so ppl can get one set by then :)

..Top of page 3 = 800 player cap in place to monitor load
..lag of death observed
How can it be a load issue that couldn't be tested on sinq which has a peak of 1k, 200 more than the current cap?
Full proxy(20) for me at the moment so i'm guessing no skills for me till tommorow night

Unless I am mistaken we did not get a free day of play (unless you consider trying to log in as gameplay). CCP has only credited us for the fact we have not been able to play today. Or will they be deducting two days of charges?

I have noticed that my training keeps turning itself off so I have lost about 3 hours worth so far. I was wondering if I was a one off or if anyone else is experiencing this. I trained a 4 dayer as well just to avoid any problems, but did not expect the thing to keep stopping.

1) You people just got a HUGE expansion for free. Every other MMO out there would have charged you at least $19.99 for it.
2) You have no clue how software development works. Until you do, cease your senseless prattle.

i keep getting unable to connect to 157.157.139.10 on port 26000, and then i try and connect anyways and i get: "Could not connect to the specified address. Odds are that you have not established an internet connection, the server isn't running, or the server address or port number was wrong." im talking to my buds right now and they are online

Not sure if thats the same issue but your the third person in this thread with issues with training not working properly... I've lost about the same amount of time.

It's actually very simple, designing one is the hard part. Repairing one isn't too hard.
