A major part of Eve is making friends and chatting / having a blast. Eve is a glorified chat client, and it's the best at it. I haven't take any official breaks from the game but more then once I've sat in a station for over a week and logged on every night to chat.
Over the past 2 years (almost) we have seen threads with the real life deaths of players, and it means alot to many players in the game to lose a friend.
I think it would be cool if CCP would name planets or somesuch after players that have passed away, just as a memory for the players that continue to be here. New players could see a named planet and think "I wonder what he did in Eve or who he was".
Just an idea, would be nice.. _________________________________________________________

Edited by: Selim on 13/04/2005 05:56:35 I disagree.
While it is tragic when someone you know dies, I don't think we should make such a deal of it that we rename a planet after them. First, because their death has no significance to the game itself (unless they are the late Amarrian Emperor). Second, because lots of people die all the time, I don't see people erecting statues for every random john or jane that dies.
And this is at the risk of sounding like an *******, but people need to stop making such a big deal when someone dies. Sure, if its someone you know you can and should mourn them, and if its not, but you know one that has been affected by their death you give them your condolences. Death is an entirely regular function and it need not be surrounded by mistique.

If you want to pay tribute to them name a station after them or something, that's within your right, forcing CCP to name a planet deadflip2 'cause that guy fell off the face of the world isn't a desirable sollution.
Not that I know what happened to that guy in perticular, just came up with a name I didn't want to see on a planet...

I disagree also.
Someonee dying is tragic, ok, but I wouldn't want someone to put up a gravestone in my living room becuase of it.

i agree that it should stay in RL not in the game world, only thing that bothers me if a eve buddie logs off never to return or corp member he may have gone to WoW or he might have died.. that would suck

As CEO of a corp which has suffered the loss of a corpmate in tragic circumstances in RL I'd like to say that when we lost our corpmate, who had touched the gaming experience of many players both in our corp and outside, we did approach CCP to see whether some sort of memorial could be erected to him in game. To their credit (please don't lock this for discussing GM responses Eris), they thought very long and hard about it before saying no.
For our corp however we are fortunate (I use this word with great trepidation as nothing is ever fortunate about the loss of another human being) that the wife of the player we lost was (and still is) also an Eve player, and she took over his account and kept it alive. His wife has been a corpmate, an enemy and an ally since then, but every time I see his character log in because he's on my buddy list, I remember the loss of a great corpmate and friend.
If my corp ever get something like a capturable station or a POS (if you can name POS), I still intend (with permission from our corpmate's wife) to name it after our friend who was cruelly taken from us.

This is kinda different but related..
why not let players create planet descriptions? Have some kind of format, say, 100-500 words for planet description and planet name of your choice. Then submit your description to some CCP official or ISD, if they approve of the story and name, CCP will change one of the default planets in system of your choice.
In principle, you could write a short story that somehow remembers a real person, as long as it fits well within storyline of EVE.
I think this would be pretty cool

I don't believe CCP should put names of deceased in game. I do think a monument/landmark dedicated to people who have passed while subscribed to the game would be a nice. It adds an additional touch of humanity to the game. It also gives a location that people can meet and grieve or remember others. People could always name a secure canister and place it near the monument to remember their loved ones. (i.e. similar to Eve Gate)

I think the idea of naming a planet after yourself would be a good idea - and a great ISK sink. Maybe the sum of 1Bil ISK to name a planet?

Drach,
Kirian loved this game as much as I do. I can't bear to let his character fade away. :(
Thank you for remembering Kirian Skellig, you were a great friend to him and you will always be a part of Kirian and I.
You have my permission :)

Perhaps a memorial area would be better to put on the E-O webpage, since it is more related to RL then Ingame.

I disagree, rl player death has nothing to do with the npc gameworld.

Disagree. For one it would be extreemly hard to find out when a player dies. I know if I were to go tommorow, no one in game would find out. Further, imagine CCP trying to contact everyone who has an expired account to see if the person was deceased.
Think about it this way. 50,000 accounts. I would be willing to bet that at least 1 eve player dies every week. Its probably much higher then that.
