Just recently started playing again. I am having an issue where after a few minutes, my computer just locks up while playing Eve. I have tried many different things and do not experience this lockup issue on any other game currently on the market. I did get a VPU error one of the many times that it locked up.
I am using a Radeon All-In-Wonder 9700 Pro 2.4ghz processor 1GB Ram SoundBlaster Live*Value
I have loaded the latest Catalyst Video Drivers...after going into safemode and removing all ATI drivers and am still having the issue.
I have checked for updated dell drivers for my motherboard, I have loaded updated Soundblaster drivers and am still having issues...
Has anyone experienced this sort of thing or does anyone have a work around?
Any help is greatly appreciated!

What Power Supply do you have, Eve requires quite abit of GFX rendering, If your Power Supply isn't powerful enough and your GFX card is taking most of the power thats where your lock ups will start. Also try intruducing more cold airflow by adding a fan or 2

I have the same problem and I have 3 fans just for the case alone (it actually blows out cool air)
I have the following: ATI Radeon 9600 PRO AMD 64 1.8 Gig 512 DDRam and some CMEDIA WAVE DEVICE that allows me surround sound
All of my drivers are up to date and it has been doing this ever since I had to do a system reformat (hdd got damaged while uploadin my vacation video) so of course I installed all the updates and drivers and such before I even put EVE back on the computer.

You may want to take a look at the Omega drivers for the Radeon (I'm a GF man meself), but have seen some peeps say that they prefer these drivers it may help.
It may be your psu as someone said but if you dont get it on other games then this could be ruled out.
You may want to rip open your case and clean out the fan around your CPU and GFX card (buy a can of compressed air), as EVE is CPU intensive and your comp may be restarting coz your cpu is getting a bit too warm for it's liking.
My comp is 4 years old now (poor student (not for long tho)) 1Ghz Athlon 768MB PC133 (yeah you read that right) GF4 4600 SB live value
and i have had no probs with eve, i run it 1024x768 window on a 1600x1200 desktop.
In summary Clean inside of case with can of compressed air. Check all fans are spinning properly Try omega drivers (I cant be held responsible if this doesn't work of f'ks up computer) If these simple thigns dont fix it then you need to get more hands-on. Check thermal paste on cpu Check psu (find out info about it on net forums, you may not be alone with this prob) =============================================

Edited by: stuartus on 21/04/2005 12:01:28 I have been getting the exact same prob only thing i done to kinda cure the system lock ups was i disabled the sound in the game and i can now stay connected with no lockups for ages. I know is no fun not hearing the whooosh! of torps and the banging of your big Rails, but atleast i can play. I have the exact same sound card as the original poster of this thread, so im looking into the compatability of this card with eve and hopefuly an EVE tech might read this and answer the question.
I hope disabling te sound works for you guys aswell.
cheers all

Thanks to everyone for the replies. The problem seems to be fixed now.
I updated drivers, rolled backed drivers, blew out the case etc...nothing appeared to work. Finally, as an afterthought, i reseated the card, just in case. At this same time, I again re-updated (is this a word) the vid drivers...Have not had any lockups for a week now.
I also have a 15" external fan blowing into the case with the case opened up 8)
