Just curious to know whether anyone actually makes a profit from PvP or is it just the fun factor or to claim regions?
I'm sure that there are much more profitable ways to make ISK like missions or mining but i'm just curious whether its possible to at least 'break even'

u will make more money from agents/mining than u will from my form of PVP (merc work). The only money i make during a contract is from loot drops, which are extremely hit and miss. ive had a raven drop 1bil of faction loot, then ive had weeks of all BS dropping stock tech1 gear. Luckily im pretty self sufficient and can keep myself in ships.
PVP on a whole, is not really about making wods of cash, its about having fun

Killing people for fun is psychopathic.
Killing people for isk (or not killing them as the case may be) is business.
Business is good.

lol i reckon if yu are doing PVP you should always supplement youre income with some agent and mining and belt killing of rats work. Even some trading. That said it is hit and miss.

Actually, killing people for isk is more of the psychopath way than killing for fun.
And - although you may not like to hear it - this is a game. Yes, it's true. People don't really die when you kill them. You can't kill them even if they don't have a clone, because it's not real.
I know this may come as a shock to some of you, but it's true. Some may try to deny it, but it's still not real. If you don't believe me, there is a simple way of breaking out of the game and enter "real life" as it's referred to, and the option is easily available in your ship hud :
Bring up the ESC-button menu. Then press quit. If it asks you if you really want to quit, press yes. Welcome to "real life".
Ok, back on topic :

If you kill people with valuable stuff on their ships, then yes it's possible to get isk from it. I recommend some other means of income aswell though.

Nooo!!! It cant be true!!
Seriously, not much isk to be made with PvP. Some nice drops maybe or a bounty collected. If you want stupid amounts of isk then agent missions, mining or trading is the way. PvP is just pure fun. (well for most of us, some take it very seriously)

I dont pvp to make money, but it kind of does pay for itself (and I dont pirate or ransom)...
That said, I started PVPing exclusively about 8 months ago. I had 1 battleship and about 25 million isk (enough to reinsure).
Doing very little other than PVP in that time I now have about 150mil and 2 bs.
I have also lost 9 or 10 bs in that time -- jamesw Rubra Libertas Militia

I make isk from loot I get from killing ppl..missions are just 2 boring...but down side is that you can have bad days where you might loose 2much without gaining a thing...

If you think you can do a better job, go find yourself a datacentre to host a box, get a copy of Visual Studio, and STFU.

I think I'm quite capable of looking dumb without finding out stuff about you, but thanks anyway

My ink is green for pvp. Look at the ships we usually fly and its no wonder. Take a few of the random indy ganks out and suddenly it paints a different picture, however the time spent searching for targets I could've made loads npcing or mining. _ _ How many pilots does it take to wire a Flux Capacitor? 3, 1 to wire it and 2 to talk about how the old one was better. |

Then there are the other PvP'ers. Like me for example. I don't go looking for targets, I don't have to....I live in Querious :)
The PvP I do is purely in defense of the region, it's assets and stations, but equally as enjoyable (you never know what you are going to be up against from one hour to the next). However, it sure is an isk sink (especially for me) so I top up my wallet with a few missions here and there.

Our corproation pretty much only does PVP. We make enough money to replace any lost ships + to make a sizeable profit. Sure its not nearly as much as u can make mining but my wallet is constantly going up not down. I think it has to do with our size. We rarely have more than 6 ppl out fighting at once. We get some good loot from ganking people. But also, contrary to popular belief, we have engaged fleets outnumbered by anything up to 10:1 and won. This sort of pvp doesnt give great loot as when people are setup for fleet fights they dont put expensive modules on. This best loot comes from small skirmishes, again we are usually outnumbered. These guys see they have 2 times our numbers so think they will be okay. The promptly get owned and loose a lot of loot. One guy had 6 billion isk worth of stuff destryoed. To give you an example, in the first 2 weeks we were in Stain region killing, we earned 1.8 billion isk in loot. Not bad considering we had massive amounts of fun at the same time. ----------------------------------------- Heinky> Dont mix eve with rl it can be bad for your health |

The thrill of the hunt should be enough compensation...
Best part of the game is the threat of the unknown...
But honestly, you will make more isk as a Miner or Agent grinder...but is that really any fun? NO!
Get out there with a couple of buddies and go hunting in 0.0
Teamwork is the best part of this game

In the end with pvp I make the most profit because it keeps me entertained for a longer period of time so i can continue it for hours instead of mining 3 seconds and thinking about some weird essay i had to read.
This is not a hijack
