After repeated attempts to patch over and over again, using full installs from the web site and then trying to patch and then using the posted .stuff files individually, I have finally given up.
This really needs to be fixed. Players are going to be POed when they cannot play for a day or two or have to download a 400MB "full" distribution because patching fails.
As a general question, how many of the people having problems with patching are using the VIA 4in1 drivers? (or just the IDE drivers)
And the question is, why is this screwup here in the first place? Why not just use a freely available MD5 checksum algorithm to test for the expected file? How can comparing two strings be all too difficult? Granted...it is a bit slow, but it's better than utter failure.

i'm not using those drivers, but i am still having trouble patching the game.
Where did you find the stuff files you're talking about. Were they for the newest version?

I had to reinstall my system due to hardware problems.
It has taken me days to get a working copy on my machine. I copied a working version off of another machine, burned to cd and copied it to my machine.
I downloaded everything at least twice, most three or four times. Patching from the CD is a disaster. I've narrowed problems down to corrupted resource files that will nolonger met the updates CRC check. I suspect the downloads of having corrupted files. The last and most painful one was in the index "compiled_code" something or other. If I was a new buyer...I would have brought it back to the store and exchanged for a working anything. I have a copy working on my laptop AND I know the resource files on it are compromised. The copy I finally got working on my PC is a combination of the CD burn and selected files from the laptop.
I really wish there was a way to get a clean, verifiable install on my machine. Any Suggestions?

Put down your Operating system, that will help. Also any system specs you can get.
As a warning Windows 2000 seems to have major PMS when it comes to EVE or it's patching system. iirc no1 has come up with a way around it yet.

From EVE:I : "Nimda and me did some testing yesterday but could'nt figure out why the patcher has problems with the resFaceTextures.stuff or other files. Though he tried further while I fell asleep and maybe this will work on your system:
Start Windows in safe-mode, then patch
To do so, press F8 during the startup process after a reboot. Your system will get realy slow and the resolution will be low, but you can try to do the update process then. There are some positive reports, but also some negative."

I have tried all of the above. Currently running WinXP..
I have a feeling for such a widespread problem that hardware specs are going to solve my individual difficulty. But, for the sake of completion....
Win XP Athlon 1700+ @ 2000+ Epox 8K3A Radeon 8500 LE Catalyst 3.5 Latest VIA 4in1s Two HDs (Maxtor D740X, Seagate Barracuda IV,both 80GB)

"Athlon 1700+ @ 2000+"
This might be the problem. People have reported that when they stop overclocking their cpu the patch works.
