I too am wondering about the webbifiers. Webbers now have optimal and falloff so they are not limited to 10km, though they are not guaranteed to work under 10km either. I have tried to web several ships under 10km and not met with success, and also been surrounded by 4 webbifiers and yet had my Typhoon still cruising along nicely.
So the question is, are target painters 100% successful at increasing the signature of the target? or do they have optimal and falloff? ____ If your not dyin' your not tryin'. |

Target painters won't increase your acctual range, only your chance to hit small targets over long distances. It won't do much for short distances if your tracking is not high enough, also your own sig rad goes up, so any range increase due to sig rad will not only affect you, but also your oponent. Target painters will increase your own Sig rad significantly, which leads to more damage taken if you're shot at...
I really think there is an argument to be made for either one, target painter is clearly more useful if you're trying to snipe frigates that are not moving under MWD from far away, but tracking computer will give you a significant increase in range and tracking, meaning it helps both for ranged shots and close up.
Hard to say really, if I would try to snipe someone with target painter support I'd put the target painters on a seperate ship that also has the biggest tank you can possibly fit - because the ship will be shot at a lot, and will get hit even by people who aren't even in range due to the insane sig rad.
target painters DO NOT increase the sig radius of the ship useing them...it only effects the target ship. nothing in the modules description indicates that it will increase the useing ships sig radius, and i have used them on agent missions and my sig radius never went up. . . . I don't think this was the idea for this stuff at least until the stealth units come in that reduce sig radius.
Stealth modules? Reduce sig. Tell me more....
