I absolutely hate this command. I cannot think of any good reason to have it there. Who wants an empty gun? If I want different ammo, I put the different ammo in there. This command also makes missiles disappear completely from your cargo hold for a short time..which has proven to be nearly disastrous in my case.
Why, CCP, why? |

There must be some aspect I am missing. What timesaving are you doing? How is a timesaver to tell it to unload your missiles to, then tell it to load another set? And if it is a timesaver for 1% of the population, why can't we at least turn it off, like we do the right click info circle thingy? |

It's an excellent feature if you're using an offline probe launcher to hold extra probes.

i HATE umload to cargo, its pointless, if i wanted to unload, id drag the ammo to cargo...
iv accidently unloaded like 30 times, (mostly out of combat when im waiting to recharge to attack again)
GIVE US THE OPTION TO TURN IT OFF (like ship occludes sun, turret effects, sound ect.), or atleast make a 'are you sure?' message _____________________________ Honor Glory And Strength! Honor Above Self Glory For Self Strength Of Self

Just read before you click. Problem solved. As for the purpose some people can store extra ammo (cause their hold is full with ammo or other things) in offline weaponry.

I seriously did ask myself the very same thing as the original poster when I first spotted it and considered writing a post about it pointing out we would get a new version of the ol "put offline" problem... but before I could do that another post caught my eye.
Aparently they wized upp and changed how ammo is affected when you reload. Under the old system all the exess ammo would vanish for a sec or two making it possible to not have ammo even if you have the cargohold full in reality. Since the last patch I hev never managed to switch aoutoreload off, somthing I would do two three times per fight pre patch.
Good work CCP, Im not sure what the unload to cargo is really good for but then...

It was added as a make-do part of the db-less ammo optimisation that was recently done, and was left in. I will not describe it any further than that. But I will remove it from the client. It won't be removed in the next fix-er-upper patch, but it will be removed eventually when a major patch which includes an integration of the main code comes out (as compared to the selected critical fixes in the fixer-upper patches).

Yeah it would be good to make it an option because a lot of people barely enjoy combat with the lag and you need that top option to be reload and reload only, its a very very very thinline between getting that corpse, or being it. Impossible is nothing. |

Actually, I found it to be quite useful. After completing a mission, just before I dock I select "Unload To Cargo" for all my launchers, so I won't have any missiles loaded. For the next mission, I can just drop whatever type of missiles need in my cargo hold and load those after I undock. That way I'm not carrying any type of missiles along that I don't need and I don't have to fiddle with the "Fitting" panel in-station either.
