Could someone approve of the following please:
The targeting speed is
T = (40000/X) / (arcsinh(Y) -¦ )
where:
X = scan resolution of your ship Y = sig radius of the target T = the time to lock.
And since the inverse hyperbolic definition of arcsinh(Y) = ln ( Y + GêÜ (Y -¦ + 1) ), the formula would be
T = (40000/X) / ((ln(Y + GêÜ(Y-¦ + 1)))-¦) , right?
So if my Buzzard with a base scan resolution of 405mm (X) wanted to lock a Drake with a 285m base sig radius (Y), the time it would take equals:
T = (40000 / 405) / (( In (285 + GêÜ(285-¦ + 1))) -¦ ) T = 98,77 / 40,27 T = 2,45 seconds
Am i doin it rite??? Or does the sig radius in meters somehow has to be broken down to the scan resolution's milimeters? The State will not fall. Join us. Fight. Conquer. |

~2,5 seconds doesn't sounds wrong. You maybe could confirm your formula by comparing the results you get with it, with the infos you get out of EFT / Pyfa |

You were the kid who actually wanted to correct the teachers mistakes instead of concentrating on the hot girl in front of you in class. Since the cessation of their usefulness is imminent, may I appropriate your belongings? |

Won't lock in under 3 seconds due to server tick/heartbeat so the correct answer is 3 seconds minimum. |

it's also one of the few things that ping has a large effect on. as an AU player, there's almost no point at all in me flying fast tackle since my lock speed blows.

Let me elaboratoe for the slower/lazier (not mentally deficient that is!) among you:
the formula to calculate your targeting speed is not complicated at all to understand.
T = (40000/X) / (arcsinh(Y) -¦ ) in essence means that you have 2 variables (X + Y) which you always can provide (the sigradius of the target and your own scan resolution; when in doubt, press ALT+F ingame and have a look at your fitting when your SeBos are running) and easily insert in the formula:
1. you take 40.000 and divert that by your scanresolution. 2. then you take the arcsinh of the targets sig and then square that. 3. now divide 1. by 2. and voil+í , there's your locktime (on paper).
I just wanted to know if there's something to attend to concerning the two different dimension units (mm and m). but since the results always match the ones I get out of EVE and EFT, that seems not to be the case.
ps: arcsinh is nothing but the integral of the sqrooted variable, look at the formula above. even the windows calculator can do that!
pps: i always had the hot girls and asked the most complicated questions, boo yah! :D The State will not fall. Join us. Fight. Conquer. |

Seems about right...
But my question is why don't you just use EFT, Eve HQ or PYFA for this? That is the Way, the Tao.
Balance is everything.

Sometimes, you're using too much math. For example, I know that my battleship with a pvp fit takes about 28 seconds to lock a frigate. Done. At the point where fractions of seconds mean so much, its no longer fun. Sorry, but there it is. You asked the second most boring question in eve, and worst of all, people answered you. The most boring question involves lock times on asteroids or some kind of miner yield spreadsheets. |

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I love maths! It is the only truth that mankind has.
At this point and not off topic: It hurts that caldari always have worst targeting speed. |

There is no way to calculate locking speeds for different ships in EFT, EHQ, Pyfa, etc. is there? Only the sigradius + scan resolution are being shown. The State will not fall. Join us. Fight. Conquer. |

In EFT just right click your scan res and you can show lock times on default sig radius's as well as any currently open fits
