Hey all.
I was just copying my EVE folder to set up a Buckingham client, and I noticed a lot of the xxxx_win.patch files taking up a LOT of drive space.
Just wondering, do they need to be there, or is it a case of they get downloaded, files get extracted, then they're good to be deleted? |

Yep, they can be removed once they've been applied. It's only useful to keep them if you're running multiple clients and then you can copy and paste them between directories rather than downloading them multiple times. Once they're applied though, you don't need to keep them |

In the settings panel, if you switch to the 'Patches' tab you can see an option titled 'Delete patches after use'. If you hit this, it will delete patches once you've used them. Software Engineer, Core Infrastructure, Team Special Circumstances |

Or use the "junction" method (on Windows), which lets you patch once and all junctions get updated. http://wiki.eveonline.com/en/wiki/Multiple_clients#Method_1_-_Junctions
Mostly useful for cases where you want to have different clients run at different resolutions, without having to tweak settings each time. You can always login multiple clients using the same launch point without the need for junctions at all. OTOH, some things work better if you stick to 1 account = 1 junction style. Mostly performance issues as the cache code doesn't always like multiple clients hitting the same cache directory. |
