Edited by: Tanuwid on 21/04/2005 20:50:01 Greetings, all. I've just reactivated after a year away, and I had a little money left over so I purchased a Catalyst, with the hopes of mounting blasters on it to hunt NPC pirates and do low level missions with. I'm still reading the forums and trying to catch up, but I'd appreciate it if anyone could recommend a solid blasters setup for this ship. Thanks!
Edit: I do not have the skills for Tech2 stuff, so please keep it Tech1.

Edited by: Har Ganeth on 21/04/2005 21:27:56 ROF is nerfed, and the powergrid is a bit low too if you're low on skills. You're going to struggle to use a MWD effectively to get into range - cap, sig penalties etc.
Just use rails and an AB.

hey there tan, long time no see.. contact me in game, i can help you out with that
When I was a kid my favorite relative was Uncle Caveman. After school we'd all go play in his cave, and every once in a while he would eat one of us. It wasn't until later that I found out that Uncle Caveman was a bear. -jack handy |

Good to see you again too, Rap :)
While I realize it may not be optimal to go blasters, it would still be fun to make one. I mean, if my goal is just making money, I have an Armageddon I could use instead of a Destroyer, but min/maxing isn't the goal here, just having fun is!

I've used a mix of blasters and rails - this set-up has worked quite well in Level 2 missions if I take my time and plan ahead before jumping into something.
HI SLOTS - 2x Tech 1 Neutron Blasters - 2x Tech 1 Ion Blasters - 1x 125mm Gauss Rail - 2x 125mm Compressed Coil Rail - ONE EMPTY SLOT
MED SLOTS - 1x Fleeting Propulsion Inhibitor - 1x Cap II Charger
LOW SLOTS - 200mm Armour Plating - 1x Tech 2 Small Armour Repair - 1x Tech 2 Power Diagnostic System
I'm still working on skills, but with the right training I'd be able to fit a Tech 2 Reactor Control unit in place of the Power Diagnostic System. That way I could fit an extra gun in the empty hi-slot position. I've found that if I open up with my rails first I can knock off a few hit points. When an enemy is less than 10k away I'll activate the Webbifier (-90% speed loss on target), and close in to orbit where I can open up with my 4 blasters. It's easy to kill cruisers this way, and deadly enough to handle a bunch of frigates at once. null

Sensoria, if you're training for stuff like cap2's and RCU 2s, I'd ditch the destroyer all together. Its not worth it - that one cap 2 is worth about 15 times more than your ship - and a setup that mixes blasters and rails, on a fragile platform like the destryoer, without capitalising on its strengths, is gonna lose you that Cap2. ---:::---

I totally agree - I see the Catalyst as a transition ship right now. I won't take it into systems with super low security for fear of losing the Tech 2 equipment that I've collected, but I will continue to use it until I build up my skills for a larger ship. Being able to kill cruisers has also been handy in building up my standings.
Cruiser is up next - have a Thorax waiting . . . .
