Something I forgot to mention in my previous diatribe.
Never, in any game (and I have played every single mmmorpg since Ultima beta) have I met a kinder, more mature and intelligent player base than in this game. Everyone is so helpful towards us new players that I am amazed every session by the patience and willingness to help that has been shown to me.
I have only been approached negatively once, a person offering ship and money for skills to pick up canisters of ore he steals. I hate thiefs and griefers so refused. But in any other game, he would have been the norm, and expected.
Pat yourselves on the back people, you are Eve's number one recruiting staff.

that may be true, but i'd say the good-natured people outweigh the nasty ones (by good-natured, i mean, how they help out other people in need and act politely to people, not what they do to other players, most of the pirates i know are really nice, my raven was given to me by one of them :)

Bah, Istvaan's all talk. He's actually an excellent and friendly addition to any corp. You're guarenteed to have interesting conversations and sometimes even make the official in-game news! -

Although, don't take every cruel action to mean that the person behind the player is mean. This is a game, a lot of people RP and some of that RP includes playing the bad guy from time to time. I am glad though to hear that you have had a positive introduction to Eve, and may you survive some of the nastier realities you will eventually find.

Heh, Makus is new to the game. Just wait you will see Eve is like every other pbase really. You have your "Mature" people and you have a lot of "Immature" people. Might be more helpful here on EVE but... I can't go a day without some kid trying to show me how big his peeeenis is or how cool he Elite Speaks to show me how much of a loser he really is. I swear if I have a kid and he starts playing online games to say "WtfPWn" or how much he "Owns" the "Pbase" I will beat his ass and forbid him to play any internet game for the rest of his natural born life. Please make it STOP!!!!!!!!

While the evil/goodness of the playerbase is a discussion for another time, few would dispute that this community has less foulmouthed capslocked 'is gonnea kill your family!!!one11!' 1337-tards than most other offerings out there.

People tend to be pretty nice around the empire area. however, as you move closer and closer to the edges of empire space, you'll find no shortage of people who would gladly stab you in the back given half a chance.

I think one of the reasons the general EVE community is so "nice", has to do with the fact that most players are older than the average gamer. It seems as if most of us are pretty mature...
But then again, if I have a look at the Alliances/Corp forums...

In game ppl are very friendly and most will help you out, but be wary :)
These forums however are the most unfriendly ive ever seen and you will be lucky to find a straight answer to your question/query among the multitude of flames

Edited by: Mak''shar Karrde on 22/04/2005 11:47:54 In my experience the friendlier people tend to be closer to the battlefield. Of course it depends on the game but when there are repercussions associated with being an 'undesirable' it has the amazing result of people acting decently. Most of the time. I'm a little unsure if this translates well to EVE as people can still 'hide' in Empire space and player justice isn't always possible.
In all my travels (UO, EQ, SWG and EVE) i would have to say that the kindest, most mature players i have had the joy of playing with were on the Siege Perilous shard in UO. It was a land with full, non-consensual, PvP. There was nowhere to hide but as a result it had the tightest community, effective player justice and a mature player base. Another huge factor was limiting everyone to one character in my opinion. This takes away the ability to hide on an alt and makes people accountable for their actions.
And then the Development team ruined it. Grrr...

That¦s about true for the general (and alliance) forums, but if you really seek help when you have some game related problem you won¦t be let down by all the other ones.

It should also be noted that skills to pick up ore cans dont exist.
And its nice to hear you have such nice experiences.Wait till you get insta killed by a pirate camping some gate.He knows you are a noob, has nothing of value, but kills you anyway. Its like a robber killing a beggar even though he knows perfectly well the beggar has nothing of value.
