I am a casual player who manages to play for a few hours each week. In the beginning I was afk mining into my iteron which was quite boring but brought a steady income to build up my trading career.
The fact that there is a demand for trit and pyr in empire space made me now start to learn mining barge which I will finish in another week or two.
But I will be alone at my mining spot because my corp buddies will be doing agent missions in another region (one of those companies where RL friends join together) and that mostly at times I am not logged in.
So I will have a mining barge and the possibility to strip the empire belts to satisfy the need in my area and I wonder if I'll meet many ore thieves while doing it solo.
But since this this is multiplayer game I think will risk to ask in local, if anybody want's to join in a mining operation and do the hauling to the station.
Now I and the haulers face the problem of trust. I have a refining efficiency of ca. 98% so it would make sense for me to refine the ore. Now I have to trust the hauler to put the stuff in escrow and he has to trust me to refine it and give him his share.
- What do you think will happen? - Do you think this will work? Might it be a good idea that the hauler puts the lot in escrow for the share we agreed on? - And what would be a fair share for the hauler, so that does not turn sour and starts ore thieving?

Well first of all. Most ore thieves are pretty easy to spot. Look at thier standings, are they really low? Chances are if they are, and they are offering to haul your ore, then they are a thief. Most ore thieve are alts that were trained to use a ship like a bestower, and you can tell they're alts by looking at thier standings.
Most of the people you meet around, are trust worthy enough. The best bet for a split of ore, would be to refine one batch at a time. Most people have no problems letting someone else haul, or refine.

Yeah, a good way to build up trust is to trust with little bits at a time. Mine for, say, an hour, then go back, refine and split what you have - by all means carry on for another hour straight afterwards. But you're both more likely to trust each other if there's only an hour's work at risk - and there's less temptation to break the trust too.

Edited by: Killde on 22/04/2005 09:29:07 I'd find a nice .9 or 1.0 out of the main jump routes. Usaully not too many people out there, should reduce the number of ore theifs in comparison to mining in some area packed with 50 people. Also if your in a large barge, get some drones that way you can defend yourself and move down into .8 and .7 . alot of systems at that level that are completely empty most of the time.

If you are never on when your friends are, join a different corp.

You would be welcome to join our corp or just mine along side us if you wish.
If you contact me or Valentine Keen we can have a chat.
As for ore thieves, they are not that common. Simply stay out of the high ways and you will be fine. |

Hi Luance
Like most of the above say ore thieves are uncommon and majority of peeps are to be trusted.
My corp tends to mine up and around Airkio system in Lonetrek if you are in our area we would be more than happy to have you along.
However, why cant you haul for yourself? Just keep in a quiet system and use insta jump BMs to get to the can and back to the station and you should be fine. Cans can be refreshed and if you haul every hour or so....

I'd say that working in partnership with another corp could be the way forward assuming you are happy with your current corp. Sure, there is still a risk of being ripped off, there always, is, but at least there remains the war dec option if you are working with another corp and they decide to screw you over.

1. mine in a very out of the way system. 2. Make insta bm's to all the belts in said system (usually 2 good bm's will cover an entire belt using strip miners) 3. Haul your own stuff
Two choices for the mins. 1. Haul them to a good market Or 2. Stock pile
I choose the stock pile method. Meaning stock pile up your trit pyerite to a point usually around say 10mil units each. Then put it on the market. Youll need to put it up slighly below the high side but not much and if you do the math you wont loose much. Typically if you have 10mil or so on the market in one spot someone that is a manufacturer will buy it or someone that is a trader will buy it depending on the price and if he thinks he can haul it to another region and make a bit more. Remember he is probably using a mark V. The time that you would have spent hauling it to the market typically you can double in the fact that you are still mining instead of hauling which if thats your profession make your isk off your profession.
Lots of other ways to do things but this way works good till your more advanced in the game and maybe start manufacturing yourself or have large hauler.

Simple.Get a corpmate to help you.
I wouldnt mine stuff like veld.Regardless of the high prices you still wont make much.I helped haul on a 2 man mining op(me and miner) not too long ago. With trit prices at 3.33 and in the same system, with me having instas from the belt to the station,we clocked in about 2.44 million trit which amounted to about 8 mill, give or take a bit.4 mill or so for each of us.This took about 2-3 hours and was mindnumbingly boring.
His ship? The laregst mining barge with strip miner IIs and veld crystals.

This is ur best option i think if u can move that is. worked like that in the past, refresh cans so u can mine for some time and then haul it all back

Thank you all for your answers and for your offers. Since I still have a little bit training to do I will contemplate them.
But still I am willing to risk being ripped off. After all this is a multiplayer game and I want to take advantage of that and try to meet other people.
I will let you know what became of it.

Go out and purchase yourself a second account. Train it to use Iteron V. Haul your own stuff. And remember, in populated areas, large secure containers are your frieds :)
Also you could mine away from the highway, I know couple of systems where I've mined for couple of months.. alone. Do you have 0.0% tax to the station you work in? If not, I suggest you take casual breaks and do agent missions to increase your standing thus lowering the amount the minerals you loose to the station. Having good refining skills also help quite a bit.
If you want to talk about mining, drop me an evemail and I can give you some tips. After all, I'm a pvp played that turned to the carebear side :P -- Currents ships lost in Exodus: 3x Moa, 1x Kestrel, 1x Merlin
