Dear website team,
The preferences page for the eve-online wiki, a.k.a. the-place-I-have-to-go-to-change-to-my-primary-character-every-time-I-log-on-to-the-wiki, isn't loading (for me).
https://wiki.eveonline.com/en/wiki/Special:Preferences
Please, A.) check into why:
- "Firefox has detected that the server is redirecting the request for this address in a way that will never complete."
- and IE never completes loading
B.) fix it so that the server remembers my character at log in... (the option to do this is in the preferences page... and doesn't work even when the page does)
Thanks
P.S. Is anyone else getting this error or is it just me? |

Apparently the "Opera" browser is able to overcome the issue and resolve the target page.
After logging in using Opera and navigating to the preferences page, any changes that you make to that session will persist in Firefox (not sure about other browsers). So you needn't continue using Opera after this point.

Hell, even an ISD or CCL member could of at least said something like - Thanks for the info, the appropriate department has been notified..
Anyway, the problem still exists and needs to be fixed asap.
Guess I can try this workaround.

Just wanted to say that the 'workaround' worked. Was able to switch and save specific character. I also clicked the 'keep me logged in on this computer' option in Evelopedia and then saved my settings.
Thanks for the info.
I wonder if deleting the Opera browser will cause the Evelopedia Preferences page in Firefox to revert back to not showing the saved settings.
Well, I'm not gonna take that chance and find out. I'll just keep the Opera browser in case I need to access the Evelopedia Preferences page again.

Just gonna repost my reply from another thread pertaining to this issue which hasn't been resolved yet.
Seems the workaround of using the Opera browser to influence Firefox no longer works. In the Opera browser I can still load the Preferences page, change characters and save settings.
Since I can no longer edit / create Evelopedia pages with this character using the Firefox browser, it looks like I'll have to use the Opera browser from now on. Obviously this is not a solution, just a means to an end.
By the way, the Evelopedia pages in Firefox browser now shows this characters portrait (DeMichael Crimson) while listing my alt characters name.

I am having the same problem...tried in Chrome, Firefox and IE...in Chrome it tells me "redirect loop...clean out your cookies" which I did to no avail. The other browsers just time out.
I am brand new to Eve, and have not been able to access the evelopedia user preferences even once.

Cat, I get the results you describe when I enter a username and password for an account which has not been verified by the log-in system. I.e. if you have gone through a log-in (in eve-gate for instance) and it asked "what is the name of a character on this account" as a security question. Then you should be able to log in to the wiki. If you have not done that, the wiki log-in page redirects endlessly.
This verification may be needed on a per-computer (or perhaps per-IP) basis. Try first logging in the account your are trying to use at a few of the other Eve-online log-in locations... such as eve-gate, account management, api-key mangement... ect. After you get past the security question, you should be able to log-in to the wiki. (probably...) |

Thank you very much. Logging into the forums, and using the link to Evelopedia from there, got me logged into the Wiki. Even using Firefox.
But if you are logged in, and open a new page the login fails.

Hi everyone. Apologies for the time it took for us to get this pushed out to you but the Preferences redirect problem has been resolved. We've also added Single Sign On to Evelopedia and updated the Item Database to Odyssey 1.0. A lot of work has gone into updating the code base and infrastructure for this site but there are still a few visual fixes to come.

Thank you very much, but don't celebrate yet.
Confirmed, after a browser restart and cache clear, the SSO login and preferences pages both load.
However, when I go to change my "Default character", I cannot in any browser. Despite opening the pull down menu and selecting another character, when I go to "Save" my selection, lots of other options save properly, but the selected character perpetually reverts to the default "Default character".
Since the original problem this thread was addressing was the inability to change editing characters, and since the not even the Opera workaround works anymore, we've actually taken a step backward as far as usability is concerned.
Please have another crack at it and keep us updated.
Thanks again. |

Wiki web page is down as I type this.
The issue with everything new needing DB Stubs did not get solved with this new version.
A lot of the photos are missing.
Search does not work any better.
All ships that had stats changed need a up date stub added to them until the text gets updated. It would be nice if it could be auto added.

Yes there are a lot of still to be fixed issues in general. I'm very aware this is a website that needs lots of care to get it up to standard, both in terms of these annoying usage issues and with some of the static content (e.g. the Item Database) currently housed there.
Also, please see this news item in case you're confused why we just reverted back to the old one until next week.
Please feel free to file bug reports on exact issues you encounter. Those get filtered to us and we can better act on them. CCP Alice --áWeb Architect-á

The issue is the difference between feature request changes and bugs. Are functionality issues bugs.

Because I suspect that the issue may have something to with the bug in this thead, I will wait for the new version of evelopedia before I can make a final judgement about the bug and the "fix" but in the version that is now down, but it was actually worse because now my username seemed to now be my alt character permanently, even though I did most edits with my main. The EVElopedia code was actually being developed and maintained by an outsourced company up until recently. This is the first time we have it now 100% in house and under both our product direction and code control. It's been a bit of a semi-orderly (and semi not) mess, it will be that way for another while, but I really, really, really want to tackle this whole thing and find better solutions for a pretty big portion of the content on there.
Future is not fully decided, but I have high level ideas and plans. So yep - thank you for reminding me people do care and would like to have input into the initial discussion! :)

We were still not satisfied with the new version, so yes we unfortunately had to roll back a second time. It's in much better shape now and we're also doing additional, more intensive QA on it as well, to be sure. Third times a charm right? ;)
Yes, we're also working on the new bug reporting feature, and have just wrapped up the Alliance Tournament web pages as well. Normally this wouldn't cause this current delay for the wiki deployment, however it's summer vacation time here in Iceland so we have a few people that we need to handle all this currently on vacation.
Again, really sorry about the delays! I understand how frustrating the current wiki is at the moment. And don't worry, any edits you make on the current version will be carried over to the new one.
Thanks!

Thanks!
What about the changes that where made when the new version was up before the reset.
With the new version up the above question still stands and I got a new issue.
I do not want to have to place all the stubs that I edited in placed again.
If i logged in to the dust forums after I log in to the eve forums i cant log in because SSO only acknowledges the dust forums after I log in there. |
