EVE is the first online game where I ever actually started getting into things enough to where it has affected my RL vocabulary. I now commonly call people "Noob" and on more than one occasion I have stated something like, "I swear I'm gonna pod that guy!" in front of people who have no idea WTF I'm talking about. -

Seleene I'm with you, Sadly I've incorporated eve phrases into my vocab. On multiple occasions, I've claimed I wanted to gank someone. I used to really like a band called Hed P.E. I now call them Hed GP all the time by accident. ----------------------------------------------

The stupidest thing you can do with EVE is start playing it. That encompasses things like:
"Bye-bye real life" "Bye-bye girlfriend" "Hello cooking pre-cooked meal" "Hello, fire department"

Told a recruiter I would rather spend my time playing eve and not sitting in traffic all day (6 hours sometimes) just to go work to Los Angeles. I'm not sure if that is stupid but she has not called back. 0.o It's not you... no wait it is you. |

Heh Brilliant post, very funny
I on the other hand would say eve has made me do sensible things.... I work for a large Oil firm in UK (yes i know its the antiChrist but hey they pay well) and my office in Londons Canary Wharf are nice and secluded from prying eyes. I dont play at work cos that would be stupid, but i do find (like now) i post a bit on the fourms and read up on the eve worlds politics. I have even set aside 3 hours on a Friday morning in my diary to 'eve Training' to do this.
I had my 6 monthly appriasal with my boss last week and we went through my training log (which is part of the form) and SHOCK HORROR i saw an idiot PA had put my 'EVE TRAINING' into my A&D form!
My boss went thru my objectives as usual and everything was fine....he then said "hmm whats this eve training you do every Friday?"
to which i replied "its management training for running a corperation, financials, people management that sort of thing" a bead of sweat runs down my brow yet i remain stone faced.
"hmm thats very commendable how much is the traning?" he replied
"its an online based training package, ú15 per month of which i pay that myself" i muttered
"really?! oh i dont know about that im sure we can sort that on expences, we do have a training budget you know" thundered my boss
"great!" i smiled
I got an 'A' grade for my troubles and a bonus for such hard work!
Eve i bloody love you!

LOL ^ ^ What happens when the Boss wants to try this training package?....
I got railroaded into playing EVE, friends at work have been playing since late 2k3 and got me to play finally in late 2k4, since then I have bio-massed my original char when she was at 2 mil SP while drunk at Christmas as I didn't like the way she looked at me, I now run 5 accounts in game and never play anything else. I used to LAN at least once a month with a friend of mine but its now about every 3 as he can't play EVE.
Bought the other half a laptop so she would moan less about the time I spend playing EVE, installed it on my PC in the office so I can switch skills when needed and place new sell orders erm, thats about it for now i think..

I myself didn't do anything silly, I'm a business man and I run a small up-and-coming company so actually I hardly have time to play games. But I introduced this game to my brother and he got so addicted that he's flunking his school and stuff like that. *sigh* should have kept it to myself...

I think eve has taught me much, one thing in particular is general maths and IT in the workplace
let me explain:
I was never much of an application user (MS Office and all that) but after trying to work out how much isk i make per 60 second cycle of the miner 2s i put my hand to excel, month after month i have created a spread sheet that covers everything from agents to pos fuels all with linked macros and such. This skill has gone into my work for 'The Ebil Black Blood' company i work for. I actually work in management but by the use of these clever sheets and general understanding of applications i have been able to create some rather clever innovations. so i think eve is good as it has inspired me to excel in software packages that have helped me manage my work.
Im not worried about my boss as he is based in Hong Kong so i see him once every 3 months and yes i am going to try and claim my eve sub thru expences (personal and incrimental expences allow ú5 a week for 'self improvement training')
Hehe i love badly written HR Policy

You sir, are a lucky bloody genious.
Only thing i did cauze of eve, is buy my gf a laptop and incourage her to work hard for her masters, and to take as much time as she needs for school. School comes first.
So that leaves me exactly 4 months till that doesn't work anymore.
Good thing tough is, that she'll prolly make enough money for the both of us, so i see no reason to work anymore afterwards "yeah, i'll take care of the kids, i never was somebody who would put the kids in a nursery or something"
- "Whatever doesn't kill me 'd better get the hell out of my way-

Spent 3 years following this game, and most of my teens. Then tried to quit while living in a country where half of the population seems to play.
Might as well have sniffed coke for a year and gone cold turkey during a major rock music band pre-release party.
I lasted one and a half month.

I feel ya...
Hmmm... can't say I did anything stupid cause of EvE. Besides this one time maybe where I went upstairs and switched on the cooker for some food. When I came back to look after my food after playing some more I noticed that I switched on the wrong hotplate. That's no biggy... the problem was however, there was a plastic water boiler standing on that hotplate. Well it wasn't really standing anymore as it melted down into a pulp of blue liquid plastic and cables. Didn't smell all that tasty either.

Aye Carramba! that aint good.
I read in a PC magazine that a guy in Japan recently died playing online games:
He was apparently at a mates cyber cafe and was playing Counterstrike for the first time. He was rather good at it and continued playing nonstop for 3 frickin days! when he finally stopped due to chest pains he wondered into the cafe section and passed out later dying of exhaustion at the scene
This aint good peeps, at the end of the day there will come a time when the eve servers are switched off..... dont sacrifice your real life for eve.

LOL amen
its so easy to fall into tho isnt it. if i didnt have such a 'socializing' job being bar manager and all that, i could quite easily lose touch with reality.
my gf atm is cool with my eve addiction, plus it helps cos the boss plays, 2 of the doorstaff play and 2 of the barstaff are intrigued by the game. not to mention close family friends who play also.
and as for the being late for work stuff, I can never get away with 'being stuck in traffic' or 'i was parking the car' cos all they have to do is ring upstairs internally .
altho i admit i have used those lines before and ppl just laugh at me

Blasphemer!!
How can you even think of the servers being turned off!!
As for me the silliest things I have done is play eve most of the night, getting only a few hours sleep before having to drive 200miles to sit in an all day meeting, then driving a further 200 miles back home whilst falling asleep at the wheal of the car. Thankfully nothing happened but still.
All to sit up for the rest of the night playing eve before going to work the next morning!!
Reality check anyone?
