I like many of you have read the dev blog and CCP's intention to stop agent drops of pos materials entirely in the next few weeks.
I am very encouraged by this, yay!
Id be interested in knowing what your comments are and how you see the POS industry adjusting to this.
Thx

I have been eyeing this special little Ice field close to my operations. I would pop over there and look at the pretty little crystals and remeber the days long ago.

Which is? gather around the ice fields and drink brocolli shakes while waiting for the miners to cycle?

Yeah, this is great. I do missions mostly, and I don't do much with my corp's POS, but I think this is a good move. I predict a change in ice mining coming, though. Too boring, skill reqs are too high, takes too long.
So, prices for ice will go up, so the price of running a POS will go up, cost of tech 2 components will go up, tech 2 item cost will go up. I really think the next step needs to be to increase the refine rate or reduce cycle rate on ice mining. I'd vote for increasing the refine rate, because reducing the cycle rate just means you need another dedicated hauler, removing a miner, and evening out production.
This is just based on my ice mining experience, which is not much. I know I was bored beyond belief for several days and we ended up only getting 18 days worth of fuel after quite a few people working on it for several days. ---

I actually think T2 prices going up is a good thing(tm). I've read stories from beta where only a handful of people had battleships and it was like "wow"; elite ships should be like that.

If you think you can do a better job, go find yourself a datacentre to host a box, get a copy of Visual Studio, and STFU.

Good news, profits showing up faster and easier (yet competition will be there faster than planned too!).
Result is, a little chaos in prices for a short while then everything will stabilize to nice level.
Thoses selling below cost will be purged from the system naturally.
Don't expect price to go in the 1 mil by raw materials simply because the current 700 POS will probably jump to 3000 POS in like one month.
At last, the producer have their own specialization AND their new toys to play with, surrounded by the new toys of the pvpers...
Exciting time ahead! |

The only possible thing they might consider with respect to "enhancing" Ice mining, would be to make the fields that do exist have more than one or two types of ice. OR, alternatively, create "clusters" of fields within a two to three system distance from each other that have complimentary ice types that compose ALL of the requirements that a POS has in terms of what it needs from ice products to run.

It still takes quite an effort to put up and run a station. Don't know if we'll hit 3000 stations. Maybe 1000 perhaps.
Where was the guy who had moon studies to sell? :) I think perhaps he might have some clients coming his way.

Supporting just two POS's and making a component item is a ton of work. I'm really looking forward to actually having demand for what I produce. Our corp has invested over 300m isk on two POS's to date and fuel and about 20 hours of mining time. Its nice to see the 45 minute "agent runner" is no longer going to be able to undercut our player economy.

Edited by: *****en on 28/04/2005 04:45:35 LOl time too buy a L barge camp out an ice field and make tonnes of isk. *sighs* agents got the final nail in the coffin. And agent runners have gotten nailed by the nerf bat 5 times this year.

Well with rising prices on tech2 modules, ships etc, the ones that utilize these the most is most likely the same people that cried the loudest about how agent missions needed to be nerfed. I really love it.
Hoarde -> Produce -> Squeeze the most out of the consumer as possible. Let them bleed dry of ISK

As a tech 2 producer i fear the price of tech 2 will skyrocket. Already in the last few months we have seen the price of thrusters and shield emmiters rise to the same value as reactors (due to the rediculously high price of ferrogel). I am not going to make things for the fun of it, so i am going to have to raise my prices to suit.
It seems to me unfortunate that this only goes to help the large corps again. Those that can run many POS will be raking in the profits, while anyone in a corp unable to run a POS will just be left with expensive tech 2 bills.

Edited by: Dantes Darkheart on 28/04/2005 12:47:28 Okay, all you T2 module producers, what is your % profit??? I'd very curious to see what you all have to say. I don't care if you post with an alt but at least be honest.
Edit: And btw, Ferrogel is so expensive because it's one of the biggest pain in the ass material to make. I don't make it atm but I know what amount of resources goes into making it. Because it's such a PITA, only a few people bother producing it.

Ferrogel is as expensive as it is as it needs two simple reactions that both contain Promethium, which at the moment is the most rare moon mineral. Over time, more people will venture into 0.0 for moon scanning, find additional Promethium moons and the prices both for raw Promethium and the products it creates (Fermionic Condestates, Ferrogel --> Reactors, Shield Emitters, Thrusters) will go down again.

You can partialy blame this on CCP for making such as Promethium so rare.

Let me just say that i dont blame anyone for pricing there POS materials at a high price. Its an open market and as such people will charge whatever they can get away with, in exactly the same way that tech 2 producers will. My main reason for posting here is to advise caution before we get a spiraling inflation on tech 2.
As far as tech 2 production goes - we are all aware of Cap charger 2 or strip miner 2. We all know the profits here are quite astonishing.
Consider the 95% of tech 2 modules however which are not anywhere along these lines. The micro smartbombs, turrets which are not the best type (eg gattling pulse 2) the list could go on. Hardly anyone uses the tech 1 versions of these items, so the tech 2 versions will always be of limited use. As such these items have a % profit margin that, by the time you add on time to collect components, research the print etc., is not that high. Probably less than 20% for most items i would estimate.
For anyone who realy want to know, its easy to calculate the base build price from the information given in the Item database on this very web site. Add a bit for profit and running around and there you have it
