Over the years many people have prophesied the death of Eve.
With the release of each new MMO you will get the usual forum posts stating that it will kill Eve yet truth be told Eve was never at any real risk as each of these MMO's has never been a true competitor to Eve.
If fact Eve has no true competitor, however that may soon change with Star Citizen.
Here is a game that could truly compete with Eve
Star Citizen has already raised $6.8million for its kickstarter program (their goal was $2mil) which by the way is a new record.
Could Star Citizen be the game that kills Eve?
I would say that it certainly has the potential to cause a lot of damage to CCP subs numbers.
At the moment some would say that Eve has become stale.
You currently have major issues which are starting to turn players away or at the very least really frustrate players. Issues such as
Woeful Corp Management Interface Horrible Sov Mechanics Massive NAP fest that is null (No it is not an attack on the Goons / HBC, they are simply using the mechanics to their advantage) No Alliance Tax Tech Moons Half baked Releases by CCP Low Sec
and I am sure people can add a lot more to this list.
Of course a lot depends on how good Star Citizen is but with Chris Roberts (the man who brought us Wing Commander, Privateer and Freelancer) at the helm I would say the odds are pretty good that it will be a great game.
Some people will say that Star Citizens is at least 2 years away so no need to worry but considering how it takes CCP to tackle any major issue, 2 years might not be enough time.
So my questions are,
1. Do you think that Star Citizens could be the game to break Eve?
2. Do you believe that CCP have the ability to be able to fix the major issues in Eve before the release of Star Citizens?

1. no 2. if 1. were true, then no (because EVE's death be due to fundamental issues), otherwise 2 years will go a long way towards fixing EVE. I'm a NPC corp alt, any argument I make is invalid. |

Star Citizen already has 10 years of development to catch up with. I wish them luck, the world could do with more properly built MMOs. My prediction is that it will attract a massive crowd of people who used to play Wing Commander and remember that game series as being awesome, but then get massively disillusioned when they realise that they were only good at Wing Commander due to the magic of "Load Game".

Of course Star Citizen will kill Eve because it will have hisec/lowsec/null, sov mechanics, corporations, free market with possibility of manipulation with enough power/fund and meta, freedom of choosing ships and modules in thousand of combinations and using them for good or evil deeds, faction warfare, wormholes, exploration, ninjas, titans and tiny frigs and all in between crunching in massive blobfests, fanfests and forumz full of tears/whine/rants. And it will do it all better. I am not my skills but... http://eveboard.com/pilot/Schmata_Bastanold |

It's also the guy that brought us the Wing Commander movie.
