Hi Guys,
Just bought a Retriver and I'm going to stick miners on the high slots, expanded cargo holds on the low slots, but what should I do with the medium slot?

Try Small Cap Battery in mid and Cap Power Relays in low instead of expanders as those strip miners eat cap and these mining barges aren't exactly over-endowed in energy
Before you start mining use a shuttle to make your bookmarks back and forth from station to belt if you are not jet canning, as these things are really really slow :(

True, the lasers eat cap, but as they have a 3 min cycle, it's not actually that bad. I find with decent cap skills, you can manually re-fire them more than once a minute withuot the need for cap boosting modules.

I wouldn't recommend any of the above setups.
Typically in retreivers I go with: lasers high; survey scanner medium; nano I's in the low slots.
Survey scanner IMHO is essential. Without it you will waste much more time spending 3 minutes shooting that awesome looking jaspet only to find out that there were only 5 units left in it. You won't regret having this module. It will save you a tremendous amount of time and ore.
Why nano's instead of expanders? Several reasons. Faster to warp, faster to move (150m/s vs 90 m/s). Can successfully "ninja mine" in 0.0 space with this setup a lot easier since you can get out of danger about as quickly as you get into it.
Try it, you won't regret it.

For ninja mining, here's an idea. Fit cargo expanders, shield extenders in the med's, and miners in the hi's. Pick a warp to point. Put yourself on the side of the roid away from that point, and a little to the side. Head towards the warp point at 65% speed. Stop mining that roid as you exit range, and pick another. When a spawn appears you can insta warp out. The expanders are essential for slower speed so you don't get out of range of asteroid too quickly. |

My setup is
highs: strip miners
med: Either a survey scanner or sensor booster(You can lock and launch drones quicker, Lock at 35km instead of 25km)
Low I use nano fibers. Cargo expanders slow you and you cannot get enough boost to fit a full mining cycle
I use medium combat drones but depending on your skills you can use a mix.
