Hey
Just an idea i was having, how about a "fighter" ships class, smaller that a frig... thinking Shuttle with small guns...
hard to hit, limited damage out put... like drone with a pod
hmmm... like i say, just thinking

What I would like to see would be Specilised Speed Ships, with a base speed of say, 650m/s, and a 100m3 cargo hold.
It would have very little Sheilds and paperthin armour, and a Built in MWD.
it would have 2 High slots, 2 med and 1 low.
and maybe enough pg/cpu to fit 2 small lasers/railguns/blasters but not T2.
Kind of like a T2 Shuttle
Its top speed would be insane, becuase of its extreamly low mass ect, say 5km/s
but one succsessful shot from a 250mm rail and it wold die.

What he means, as he indeed has said, is 'drone with pod'.
I just can't realy see much of a point to it though...

I've always fancied fighters as ships whose capabilities put interceptors to shame, with relatively good defenses, but lack a Pod(you are still cloned, etc, but the ship itself IS the pod) and Warpdrive. Not having a bulky capsule onboard, or the neccesary systems for a warp drive frees up a lot of room design wise for systems but unfortunately requires the use of a carrier to deploy such ships.
*Shrug* Some people wanna be starbuck when they play their sci-fi, some wanna be kirk, it's just the way of things.

no, not a frigate.. a fighter..
Think, really fast, two guns, one mid. one low..
maybe something that could lock and down torps and cruise.. Like The Lighting.. (a sick fast anti ICMB fighter)

Slasher is one of the few frigates that really feels like a fighter. Mainly because the little bugger can handle liek an interceptor and go quite fast with a AB or MWD.
Me, I'd love to see interceptor like frigates(capability wise) that are tech I and easy to train for, but with th requirement of requiring a carrier to deploy. It just seems to fill a niche in my inner space opera, one that drones jsut never will, nor any of th available t1 or t2 frigates.

Sounds like someone wants a T1 version of the interceptors (meaning less firepower and less armour)

More like three man ships modified to be piloted by one pod fitted pilot, there is a difference.
A shuttle sized ship, or even smaller, would classify more as a fighter, which frigates seem like only in comparison to larger ships.

Sounds like an interceptor to me, can get my crow up to 5km/s with a mwd.. Crusaders i think are even faster at 7km/s with decent skills and modules.

Fighters were phased out due to drones.Drones OMGWTFPWNED fighters,so frigates were invented.

Yes, as was said above, the Caldari used fighters in the Gallente/Caldari war and were on the brink of turning things in their favour when the gallante came out with drones.
The caldari were forced to build bigger, better fighters that could withstand more than a few shots from a drone.
They came up with frigate classed ships, and thanks to these were able to hold the gallente in a deadlock untill the end of the war (by which time everyone was using frigates).
