Hi all. I'm an EVE player who just couldn't resist the deals on PS3 over the weekend, so now I have the Dust beta. When I start playing tonight what do I need to know? I'm starting off with assault. What skills and modules should I look into? What do you wish you had known before you started? Thanks for your help. |

This would help me too. I'm stupidly frustrated trying to play with a Starter kit. I know you need to buy better stuff, but starting out, learning the game, I get killed so fast by players with better stuff.
tldr version of what i was going to write. Eve Online is a thinking man's/woman's game. Never played a shooter like this where it is the same, thinking about fittings, purchasing a bunch of different items off the marketplace just to set up a fitting.... Bottom line, it's a daunting game. I don't think I can play both. If I was to concentrate on Eve Online or just Dust, I would be okay. |

I have the same problem as you Angela in that I don't think I can play both EVE Online & DUST 514 as well. I actually bought a PS3 purely to play DUST 514 although I haven't actually played DUST 514 that much at all of it. When I did I found I was dying a lot which is not the ideal thing to be happening. I haven't used the PS3 that much since I bought it and have probably played Lego Star Wars & the original Borderlands(Which is great fun. ) far more than DUST 514.
I think DUST 514 will be similar in complexity and political intrigue to EVE Online but probably not quite as complex. I wonder if many EVE Online pilots will also play DUST 514 in an in-depth way and reckon they probably won't. Unless they are unemployed or have significant free time on their hands I tend to think people will just play one or the other.
I have bought one each of the original & new merc packs and haven't yet decided what I will do as regards DUST 514. I may have a go at it but I feel I may look to recoup my losses by selling the merc pack contents for Iskies once DUST 514 is officially released. If that will be possible that is. |

I recommend using the Dust forums, rather than the eve forums.
After all, we're limited by the NDA about what we can talk about here. The dust forums are just for the people bound by the NDA, so we can talk about what we want there. Thanks Steve. As dumb as this sounds, I've gotten all my info on DUST through EVE. I hadn't even considered that DUST had its own forums. |

Ok think of it like this, a better gun cost you isk every time you die... (that's common knowledge right?) and increases dmg over the basic by for example 5%. A skill which you keep forever for a one off cost also increases your dmg by for example 5%.
So why waste isk on a better gun when by saving a little longer, you can get a skill forever that does the same thing?
Obviously getting both is WAY better, and it doesnt work for everything, but starting out is different - Nulla Curas |
