I can't count how many times I'm passing through a system and I hear "OMG Ore theif!". It's a pathetic state of affairs. As Arcticblue said, and I fully agree... the solution to ore theivery is to find a quiet system .5-.7. Jet can mining in a high sec system is about single stupidest thing a miner could ever do. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure that out. C'mon people, either grow a set and dare I say go to a system with belt rats, or stop complaining. The biggest problem with ore thievery is the miners that invite it on themselves and then complain when it happens.

could it be that miners actually use their drone bay for drones and go mine in lower sec space?
I mine easily with myself and a corp mate with 2 medium barges 20light drones in a 0.3 system, most of u dont have 2 braincells to think with

Talking of brain cells and thinking, what ore are you mining in that 0.3? You do realise that, isk/m3, Scordite is equal to everything below Gneiss, and significantly better than most? Scordite is by far the best way to make isk out of non-0.0 mining right now. Check the market, find a few decent buy orders, set up shop nearby and fill them. It's at least as profitable as mining Jaspet/Hemo/Hedber, without the hassle of working below 0.5.

Originally by: Arcticblue2 Well to be honest I wish CCP would implement that flaggingsystem they was talking about, one thing orethiefs are always saying is that they want to put in some risk for the miners and that is fine but where is the risk for orethiefs ??
i'm all for the flagging of can theft, (then it might actually be fun to do) just wondering what a lone barge would do if stolen from? if he had any friends, they would have been hauling, not defending. it would be a great change for the game, everyone would get a bit of the PVP ___________________________________________________________ All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy. |

There's risk to ore thieves too: one guy came fairly close to killing... this guy I know... in Jita before Concord pwned his kessie... he only had to get off one more volley, but alas.
The thief in question had to spend some of the money made off the miners' ice on repairs on the poor little badger.

LOL yes, by all means tell us where you do this. After I pop you I'll re-deploy your drones in an interesting pattern for when you return to get them. "You Griefer!!!" = "You Doodyhead!!!" |

Originally by: anthonieak Mining Is not what was, if pirate does not shoot some miner in an area of 0.4 till 0.0. He steals your cans empty in areas 1.0 too 0.5 and only get worse.
A mining covertor barge can with good hulls take in 6000m3 in two mining cycles. There are only giant cans of max 3900m3. So if a miner mines in empire space he needs at least 32+ cans around him that is around 4 hauls.
An impossible problem.
You can not shoot it. They just say you jettison it. So i am entitled too steal your ore.
Also with coming of transport ships it get worse. They have a shielding that would take a battleship too penetrate.
A carebear gets tough time ahead. Does people that steal ore are just sick and too lazy too work even in a game.
30k m3 was stolen yesterday from me by "Crazy Santa aka Foyle" No wonder CA went down. He has lowered himself too steal ore from the miners. Who have no meaning of defence also the giant cans are too small too store anything in it.
AK (Miner in Eve in Empire space)
Did you ever think that it might be cause you make these posts that they do it? if you cant mine within the game mechanics suffer the consiquences or stop mining in empire and mine somewhere where you can defend your self. Theres no need to change the way ores are mined, piracy had to evolve its time for miners to do the same.

this is stupid, u cant beat the ore thief, game is designed that way, only way u can stop them from taking ur mins is by blowing ur can up if u see them coming, so u and they both get nothing, batter than him taking it all.
JUST BLOW YOUR CAN UP!!!

To be perfectly honest guys, how much ore are ore theives getting anyway? If ya mine in 1.0 or 0.9 your basically asking for a visit, elswhere its nowhere near as bad. Ive been mining for months and been robbed 3 or 4 times, a badger full at once was the biggest haul, and the guy who took it whined that all I had was scordite lol. Far as Im concerned ore theives are a minor annoyence.

Must have been a nub thief. Scordite is one of the most profitable rocks in space right now, until they introduce the Zydrine traces to Jaspet and Hemorphite.
I've gotten a decent haul or two. What is making people so mad is that the same thief will hit them 2 or 3 times in a row because they keep mining. Also, an Iteron V or adv. transport can easily run off with half a can or more.
Ore Thieves 4TW. The best way to keep them from getting your ore, really, is to have a hauler moving your ore constantly to your base. "You Griefer!!!" = "You Doodyhead!!!" |

I dont know if he was a noob or not but he didnt get a second grab because I emptied the can myself, bookmarks made it quicker for me to out and back, i made the other 2 trips while he was coming in for a second run :)

For sure which is why I cant understand why pipl wont move when they get robbed. Most ore thieves seem to operate in high sec, 1.0, 0.9, so move after you salvage what you can. I have ships scattered across a number of systems for mining, if theres trouble just pick up an move.

For sure it is, but despite the fact that eve is a MMOG most miners still operate alone most of the time. Cargo cans may not have been intended for jet can mining but the fact is that they are being used that way despite everything ore theives have tried and nothing will change for as long as CCP leaves it that way. So far most of the complaints Ive seen have come from non miners whining about jet can mining, not the miners complaining about being robbed.

Forgetting about covetors and other mining barges, what about the cheap cruisers that are mining with 400m3 should they run back and fourth til they made even a mil worth.
Or the people that just started out in the game with 120m3 using a frig.
Oh yeah lets share money with a hauler, in a cruiser the best i can get is just over a mils worth in empire space and split that.
This just seems to be one of CCP's ways of incouraging miners to move into lower secs. Infact CCP has spawned a few nice lucractive roids between 0.4-0.1 space now, so we can be rat prey .
Infact how many users have actually had their accounts banned for using macros or recycling their suicide kessie alts???

I know of several for macro mining, not sure about how many suicide alt recyclers have gotten the ban. Either way, we shouldn't be discussing it here.
And yes, people are intended to haul back and forth in the vessel they're using.
Without ore thieves, the Devs would have had to nerf JetCans to prevent JetCan mining. Be glad the thieves are around to provide balance to the potential market plummet, because they're the ones that make your form of mining possible. "You Griefer!!!" = "You Doodyhead!!!" |

Miners complain that secure cans suck and they for some reason can't use them. Thus, instead of having a friend haul for them, they jetcan mine.
Well here's my simple solution: Use fewer mining lasers. Then you won't have to worry about filling secure cans too fast, and you won't have to jetcan mine! -- The best description of alliances, ever:
