Well, i'm a gallente pilote and i love my BS.
So i want to do some lvl4 missions with my baby.
Did anyone of you use this BS for lvl4 mission? Can we really do them alone whith meg'?
I'm actually still on lvl3 mission with my meg'. I do them "finging in the nose". But lvl4 is really stronger! (allready done sepentis extravaganza or drone harasement with friends).
So i'm waiting you comment about that and some fitt if you have some.
Thanks a lot, and excuse my poor English

Good Luck using a mega for lvl4. You'll get by on some missions, but most will make quick work of that ship.

Edited by: Khristopher on 03/05/2005 00:30:21 Edited by: Khristopher on 03/05/2005 00:29:08 You should be able to solo lvl 4 non dead space ones without tooo much problems but I found deadspace lvl 4's to be VERY difficult solo in my megathron (where as my apoc pre nerf and raven did fine). Keep in mind at the time my gunnery skills were not all that great (important gunnery stuff at 3 rather than 4 and 5 like I have now) but I still tend to think using a megathron on lvl 4 deadspace is VERY hard and you could loose your ship if your not carefull.
edit: Also if anyone HAS found a awesome setup to do deadspace lvl 4 in a megathron post it here please! My megathron was my first BS (still have it yay!) and its still my favorite its just vastly underpowered IMO VS the other BS.

Edited by: Akaviri on 03/05/2005 03:03:20 I use two ships when I do lvl 4 missions, a Raven and a Megathron. The Raven is easier to setup, all you have to do is switch hardeners and torpedo types for different missions. With the Megathron, you have to know what you are up against and setup your ship specifically for the mission. I use a different setup for almost all the different missions.
I prefer a Megathron on all normal space missions except those with more than 4 interceptors. I also prefer the Megathron over the Raven on some deadspace missions, but not all. If I'm doing a new mission or I don't remember what to expect, I'll take a Raven. It's basically hard to go wrong with that ship.
I do all my missions for the Federation Navy so I'm usually up against Serpentis. I still haven't tried all the missions in a Mega yet, but here are a few:
Duo of Death Hi: 7x Modal Mega Electron Blaster Cannons, 1x Rocket Launcher w/Defenders Mid: 100mn AB, 3x Cap Recharger II Low: 2x Large Accom, 2x Thermal Hardeners, 2x Kinetic Hardeners, Cap Relay
I warp in and kill the sentries first, then warp out to recharge my cap, warp back in and kill the two Megathrons. I can also do this mission in a Raven but I still have to warp out anyway, and it takes longer to finish. This might not be the best setup to use, but it's one of the few missions I can use a Blasterthron.
The Ancient Ruins Drone Mission (don't remember the exact name) Hi: 7x 425mm Rails w/Iridium and Antimatter, 1x Rocket Launcher w/Defenders Mid: 100mn AB, Target Painter II, 2x Tracking Comps Low: 6x Mag Field Stab II, 1 Cap Relay
I warp in and shoot the cruise missle batteries first using Antimatter ammo. Then I switch to Iridium and shoot everything else. Just shoot at the supreme drone parasite last and don't let it get any closer than 80km and you won't take any damage at all on this mission. This mission takes, at most, 20 minutes to do. Don't try and use a tanking setup with 350mm Rails on this mission, you'll just end up taking a lot longer to finish.
Most Normal Space missions (except those with Spider Drones or more than 4 Intys). I used this yesterday on Unauthorized Military Presence against the Caldari Navy
Hi: 7x 425mm Rails w/Iridium, 1x Rocket Launcher/w Defenders (kinda useless though) Mid: 100mn MWD, Target Painter II, 2x Tracking Comps Low: 5x Mag Field Stab II, 2x Cap Relays
I usually warp in at 60km, turn around immediately, and punch the mwd. I then start shooting at any interceptors. I can usually take out 4 before they get within 30km. If they get within 30km I bookmark my position, warp out, then warp back in at 60km. My optimal is 90km and my targeting range is around 90km, so I try and stay between 70-90km to kill all the remaining ships.
Generic Tanking Setup Hi: 6x 350mm Rails, 2x Siege Mid: 100mn AB, 3x Cap Recharger II Low: Large Accom, Med Armor Rep II, 4x Hardeners, 1x Cap Relay
This setup can do just about all the lvl 4 missions (some with multiple warpouts), but it's not terribly efficient at any of them. The standard raven is going to finish missions faster than this megathron setup.
My setups work for me, but I don't claim they are the best. In the end, you'll just have to do alot of missions yourself and see what works for you. But a well equipped Megathron can kill stuff very, very fast.
P.S. I tend to use alot of named stuff, so if any of my setups are short on cpu, that's the reason. ````````````` _ |\_ ````````````` \` oo\ ````````_____/ =__Y= `````` /` `````` ) `_``` / ` , ``` \/\_.(\_/) ((____| `` )_--\ \_-`(x.x) `------'`------` `--` (> <) Kitty pwns Bunny! |

Edited by: Atandros on 03/05/2005 05:39:44 This thread makes baby Jesus cry.
This is my Megathron setup (same for every mission, except for hardeners); it has worked flawlessly so far and makes light work of pretty much anything. The tactic is to engage at 30km (or 40, if you're facing really fast opposition. You inflict noticeably, though not too significantly, less damage at 40, but you have a lot of extra time to shoot. Sometimes worth the tradeoff, f.ex. if you're facing Angel close-range battleships, sometimes not, f.ex. if you're facing Serpentis railgun Dominixes), start moving away with the AB and use the rails to splat the fastest, biggest thing moving towards you, then splat other things in order of their speed and size, while your missiles and drones kill the frigs.
7*Dread Guristas 350mm with AM (use T2 if you can; I can't, so I use these. Mind, vanilla T1s are pretty weak and it'll take you noticeably longer to kill stuff with them, plus the range is awful. Not recommended at all.), 1*Domination Siege Launcher (some kind of named launcher is a must because of the tight CPU; this setup barely squeezes even with weapon upgrades 5 and a -3% turret need implant) 1*AB II, 3*Cap Recharger II 2*Medium Armor Repairers II (yep, this is enough. And it's very cap-light to boot), 3*appropriate hardeners, 2*Shadow Serpentis mag stabs (T2 will do fine here).
With my skills and implants (lvl4 everything except lvl5 rapid firing, and a +3% dmg implant), the rails do 375~ damage per sec at ranges from 25-50 (a Raven with Arbalest launchers, BS4 and torps 4 would do 306; even if you factor in the usual BCU or two, still noticeably less); the sweet spot for hitting would be around 30-35 km, and you can hit usually well from 15 to 45. Use it as outlined above and it'll serve you well.
However, ultimately I'd still recommend a Raven, simply because it has no problems with tracking or range or target size (this Mega takes a while to kill off frigs). But there are very few alternatives better than this.
Addendum: Vengeance, like almost anything else, is a cakewalk. Some bits of Angel Extravaganza are the only difficult thing I can think of.
EDIT: lvl *4* everything except rapid firing lvl5.

Thanks for the setups! Your generic tank setup is pretty much what I had been using on my mega just that the tank couldn't keep up on the deadspace missions I was getting from my caldari agent (gurista kin/therm).

Heh, sorry, can't help you too much there; the Megathron is a pretty skill-intensive ship really, and I can't think of an effective setup that uses T1-ish gear. Perhaps 7*Compressed Coil 425s and a cruise launcher in the highs; you'd have about the same range and decent enough DPS, but you'd probably need a large armor rep since you'll be exposed to enemy fire longer, and that would eat your cap pretty quickly. If you can squeeze by without the large rep, it should work, but it'd hardly be the best option for lvl4s. Train up for T2 rails ASAP if you want a (very) effective long-range ship.

Hmm... Atandros I might have to try your setup. Though I'll probably only be able to use 350mm Protos for now. Also have you tried replacing the 2 Medium Armor Rep II's for a Large Rep II? I think it will fit and you'll free up a low slot for something else. ````````````` _ |\_ ````````````` \` oo\ ````````_____/ =__Y= `````` /` `````` ) `_``` / ` , ``` \/\_.(\_/) ((____| `` )_--\ \_-`(x.x) `------'`------` `--` (> <) Kitty pwns Bunny! |

Hi,
i am doing most Lvl 4 Missions solo in my Megathron and it is real fun. Tougher than doing them in a Raven but surely more fun. My setup is the following:
Highs
6 x 350mm Compressed Coil Gun 2 x Malkuth Siege Missle Launcher
Meds
2 x Eutetic Cap Recharger 2 x Tech2 Cap Recharger
Lows
1 x Tech2 Larger Armor Repairer 1 x Large Accomodation Repairer 2 x Cap Relays 1 x PDU II 2 x Specific named Hardeners
I usually aggress the NPC¦s at 70km¦s using Iridium Ammo. I kill the frigates first. Interceptors with Torps. As soon as the frigates go down i focus on the cruisers and as soon as they reach 40km¦s i switch to AM Ammo. This is enough to do every mission except the Angel Extravaganza. Been doing Rogue Drone Harrasement just yesterday. My skills Gunnery and Cap wise are good but not prefect. Just keep an eye on your armor and warp out if things get tight ;)
Have fun ...

I will say it once and I will say it agian. The megathron is MORE than capable of doing lvl4's solo.. If you cant get a mission done solo maybe its becuase lvl4 missions were not intended to be dont alone.. Now with that said..
Here is my setup that I use for most of the misssions:.. keep in mind I use the Caldari Navy lvl4 agents and fight primarily Guristus ships
High: 3 425 tech2 3 350 tech2 2 seige lauchers
Mid: 4 cap chargers(BEST YOU GOT)
Low: 2 cpr 4 hardners(I run 2 kinetic and 2 thermal) 1 large armor repair(I use large automated)
With this setup I can tank 3 torp spamming bs's and run everything forever..
If you are smart about it you can use the mega for all lvl4 missions.. The ones that lost a mega or any other bs that is not the uber lvl4 cheater did something wrong to get blown up..
Lvl4 missions are easy if you use that thing between your ears..
have fun .. and IMO the mega is the best ship for lvl4's.. Its so MUCH more fun to run the missions in a mega than the cheater raven..

Edited by: DEVILSENIGMA on 03/05/2005 10:53:12 My Current Megathron setup
High 6x 350mm Scouts & Higher Railguns 2x Seige Launchers - Torps Med 4x Cap Rechargers Lows 2x Kinetic 1x Thermal 2x Shadow Serpentis Large Armor Reps (as good as T2) 2x Cap Power Relays
With the cap power relays and two reps you can tank very well since u have quite a bit of cap. You can vary it by adding a extra hardeners like ponieus but the basic gist is the same.

Aside from tanking, if the missions allows for sniping then there's no ship better suited then the megathron.
Nothing does more damage at extreme range.

the only problem you will come into with that setup is that some npc's stay at 50km.. Take the Duo of Death mission. My full rack of 350 tech2 did not do enough damage to break the tank of the ships i was fighting.. But the rack of 350's is a very good setup if you ahve named ones or above.. Just damage wise they dont do enough sometimes..

A Megathron in Realspace missions is almost to easy to use.... for example:
Hi: 7 x 425 carbides 1 x named rocket launcher with defenders
Mid: 1 x sensor booster 3 x TII tracking computer
Lo: 1 x TII Tracking enhancer 6 x TII Magnetic Field Stabilizers
Using Thorium ammo, i sit at between between 105km and 75km and hammer away, frigates first, cruisers second, BS last. ROF=4.95, DamMod=6.25, tracking 0.0245. The key here is to minimize the amout of damage done to you. Generally if frigs get within 30km your guns are useless, so use your heavy drones to take 'em down.
Unfortunatly, due to all hybrid ammo being thermal + kinetic, some NPCs take a little longer to kill. Please note there are no cap chargers etc, this is done by training up your cap charger and Controlled Bursts skills, the Carbides are gems to use as they use much less CPU than normal ones and are dirt cheap. Also train up your usual gunnery skills that give you extra range, as they really do help.

Megathrons can burn up other bs hella quick my friend. In lvl4 missions they suck compared to ravens, (we all know that)
You seen what Neutron Cannon IIs + 6x Mag stab IIs, + Gal BS 5 damage happens?? Average damage of 500+ shot easy. Target painted items OMGWTFPWNED.

launch light drones to keep the rats occupied and lay some wastage while they try and take down the small drones.
still works.. but is tough

heck everything cept AM.. I couldnt get the range.. LIke I said those two rats in DUo Of death stay about 50km out.. Guess I will ahve to try it agian when it comes around for me..
anywho the mega is gotta be the more enjoyable ship to use for lvl4... It doesnt spam missles it cant run dual reps forever.. THe mega takes a skilled pilot to run them missions solo..
