Edited by: Dash Ripcock on 06/05/2005 10:07:57 Corporation Description:
Battle Angels Inc is a small, highly-trained group of mercenaries which operates within and along the outskirts of Empire space. Recently founded by distinguished ex-FIX officers, we pride ourselves on the ability to field small, tactical teams capable of attacking and eliminating targets of opportunity. Whilst we are numerically few, our members are all highly reliable û and weÆre all good friends throughout. We revel in working together to achieve a whole, and above all else immersing ourselves in the wonderful universe of EVE. If you require a small band of mercenaries û please donÆt hesitate to contact us û youÆre inquiry will be held in the strictest of confidence.
The Movie:
This is my second film, my first being Deimos-The Rat Hunter, which I threw together in a few hours with Windows Movie Maker 2.1. This second film however, required far more effort û the majority of it in the editing room. I used FRAPs to capture the in-game footage, before feeding it into Adobe Premiere Pro 1.5. To begin with, the latter was just a ætryoutÆ version û and as such did not support the Adobe Media Encoder, meaning that I had to import it into WMM 2.1 to export it as a .wmv file. Unfortunately, WMM 2.1 struggles with raw uncompressed files over 8Gb, so I had to find a way of obtaining the full version of APP 1.5 û thanks to the fellas in the æEve-VideosÆ channel for that oneà
The raw footage was shot with no sound to aid the frame-rate, as well as preventing any sound-editing difficulties later on. As a result exStuff Explorer was used to access in-game sound files to add to the level of immersion û making the editing far simpler. I made the design decision to exclude in-game GUI shots, since this did not gel with the initial cinematic scenes. As a result û there are no damage readouts here, no dialogue boxes or zoomed-out camera angles û I have attempted to make it as cinematic as I can within the limits of the EVE engine.
I hope you enjoy watching it as much as I enjoyed making it!

Running Length: 5:43 Filesize: 56.6Mb Filetype: Windows Media Video 9 (.wmv) File: Right-click and save as... Soundtrack: 'Main Title' and 'Promentory' from the Last Of The Mohicans soundtrack Time to make: Approximately 3 weeks

Note:
This film was built and exported on a top-of-the-range machine (a high-end Alienware), and as a result it looks and sounds fantastic (5Mbps rate) û so turn up your speakers and select æfull screenÆ!

Very well done, and i'm not being biased A cinematic approach showing how mercs fit into eve and why empire can be a hunting ground also.
I had a stab at making a vid myself, collected some fraps from our current contract vs Modular Mining, with a Slacker Industries pilot making a guest appearance.

Enjoy!

Dash, that was fantastic! I just fired off an email to Leafo after I finished watching it. The camera angles and use of the sound effects was top notch. The fact that it's a subject near and dear to my heart (mercs) made it even better. The text you used was excellent as well. I can't really say anything more than I loved it! -

Really good! The work with the camera angles was just amazing and was what really made this video. Nice to see an entire video built on that kind of clips.
Good job!

FEK FEK FEK! FEEEKK! You know how many ideas, camera shots and clips that just got worth crap on my FRAPS disk? And I might just as well remove that soundtrack...jees!
But OMG! This is extremely good! The quality of sound and images are beyond anything seen before I think. Very well put to gether and excellent atmo, music fits like a glove and with all non-GUI shots the cinematic feel rises way above normal! I bow down before you, I shall never attempt another movie, this is how its done!
Cant wait for another one, me guessing you will have more battle pics then due to being hired and put to the test! Lookin forward to it!
Cheers, LOWA

I'm glad you guys like it so much!
In fact, it took me closer to 10-14 days to make, I juse checked some of the earlier versions on my HDD. Seems like longer mind, simply because some of the things were a pain to implement - the biggest being obtaining APP1.5.
I'm of the opinion that EVE videos come in two flavours: those that include in-game GUI footage detailing events in the history of EVE, and those that attempt something a little different, more akin to indy cinema (or just trying to make a big, bad epic). MC Productions do mix the two to great effect mind...
It does seem like a recruitment video at times, and I suppose in a way it was meant to recruit - but the other way, attracting potential clients to our small organisation.
