For level 4 missions, would a 110.000 EHP shield tanked Nightmare with a shield regen rate of 150 DPS be sufficient when the ship is dishing out about 1050 DPS, or should I go for an active fit instead? Would it make a difference if the regen rate was 220 DPS? |

For missions like blockade, wc, ea, damsel it wouldnt be enough. Go with active fit. |

What this guy said. Except I'd disagree with damsel, I run a buffer shield domi which does (marginally) less DPS and has less EHP and it is absolutely fine. You just need to watch your range and triggers.
That said, Nightmare might not fare as well with EM/Therm damage against Angels.

I have seen people run a buffer machariel with no problems, but they were running teir 'native' missions. I think it would work in Amarr space, but that's a huge bet to take.

Yeah, I was only planning on using the Nightmare for Sansha/Blood missions, and perhaps Serpentis/Guristas as well. But for Angels, it would probably be a Sleipnir/Tengu active fit.
I guess it's not entirely impossible, judging on the responses. I'll try it out with a simple mission first to see how much damage actually gets through. |

Not all missions are suited for tachyons. I change guns depending on the range the rats will orbit/spawn at. Not point loosing dps by fitting tach's if the rats are all close. Its quick to swap them out, and with the NM's huge power and cpu grid you can switch between t2 tach's and T2 mega's without changing the rest of the fit...

Passive tanked laser ship. Passive shield tank killing cap regen, lasers suck cap.
Am I the only one who sees a problem here? As a Nightmare user myself, I am resisting the urge to *****-slap you for your stupidity. ACTIVE TANK THE THING AND LEARN TO MANAGE YOUR CAP/TANK PROPERLY FFS |

My Tachy fitted Paladin hits everything 110km down to 15km. If they make it under that range, they spawned there and will still die, all be it slower to my INMF and / or drones.
Only time I switch to Pulses is when I need to fit a Deadspace repper, which from memory is one mission I'd rather do in an Ishtar anyway.
If the Paladin didn't have crap sensor strength I would seriously consider PvP in one :) |

^^^ Don't forget conflag! And i think with the NMs tracking bonus, Angels + mega pulses could get through it well enough |

You are doing it wrong. Fit tach's and never touch the setup again.
