I was looking around some non-official Eve boards and came across this, http://www.evecompanion.tk/ ?
I'm guessing it's a trojan but say it works. What is CCP doing to stop these programs because I believe it's stated that this is not allowed...

they gave official word about 3rd party programs in the news awhile back. they pretty much said that all 3rd party programs are unsupported and that you use then at your own peril.
edit: i found it:
"3rd party tools As EVE grows, there are 3rd party tools emerging that promise to aid you in the game. Such tools are TOTALLY UNSUPPORTED BY CCP. Many claim youŠll benefit by using macros to record your keystrokes and mouse movement. More often these tools are a cover-up for Trojan horses to capture your username and password and/or other sensitive information. We strongly advise you not to install or use these tools under any circumstances. They might seem to help you but you never know when your account may be cleaned out by a 1337 hax0r."

How can they tell whom is using them. It would give people an unfair advantage over others running programs like these while their sleeping etc... Use it at your own peril is enough for me to never use them but for others...
Edit after readin your edit - They basically are saying all are Trojans... What happens when one comes out that isn't... What will they do?

I think that the rash of hacked account reports should be enough for ppl to reconsider downloading a 3rd party tool. But that's common sense I'm speaking and a lot of ppl don't understand the language. ------------------------------------- Interm-CEO for EVE Marshals http://www.EVEMarshals.com |

That's nice and all but what about when the time comes when these programs arn't ways of hacking into peoples accounts... Is it going to be like AC1?

the only problem with macros in AC1 was people *****ing about them. if you REALLY understood the high-end gameplay in AC1 then you'd know how insignificant macros were.

I take it you used macros... Anyhow in Eve macros do effect gameplay. I could mine all night for like 10 hours straight while I'm sleeping and have a 10 hour advantage over someone else and I would gain 10 hours each day. That is a huge advantage considering this game revolves around money.

hehe...i really didn't start playing heavily with macros until after lvl 126 in AC. but in that game there's not much difference between lvl 100 and lvl 150.
but anyway....macros only effect you if you let them. if you spend too much time worry about how other people play the game, then you'll forget to have fun while you play.

And a couple people working together could do shifts and keep a character going 24 hours a day too...to many people spend WAY to much time trying to figure out how someone MIGHT manage to get more than them. (see below)
Life isn't fair and neither is Eve. Get over it. |

Personally, i know of one of my Ingame friends that has been building a macro program for sometime... he's just about to get it hosted by a couple of the bigger fansites... What CCP going to do then?
I'm pretty sure as soon as people see it on the larger, more trusted sites... they will start using them more often.
Personally i'm pretty worried about how this is going to effect the game ;(

Nothing at all, the same as they did to the other exploiters who trained their chars using the 1 Trit bug. Eve is now filled with 'advantaged' players who pay their subscription, as long as they get the bucks and dish out warnings then why should they care, until we start quitting!

using macro systems is against the EULA, and any player found to be using them should be banned (imo).
Im fairly sure CCP can tell if this is happening, but i doubt they would tell you how they can tell.

1 Trit Bug.
Train desired skill, dock in station, sell 1 trit, train another skill, un-dock from station, train desired skill again. or something like that. What happened was that your desired skill immediately trained and the other went negative but then came back to normal. Nett effect you got immediate skill trained. So many people were able to train up to high level from day one. This exploit was reported in beta by myself and others and didn't expect to see it in live. I was amazed when I was 'secretly' told about it in game. It was nerfed by CCP with the message box about your brain not being able to train another skill for a minute. Again in the EULA it says that you should report exploits, these people didn't, I would have been easy for CCP to determine who had used this extensively by calculating the max number of skill points that could have been obtained and checking this against the skill points that players had, sadly too late I fear.
