As in every serious and professional design process you make many rough drawings and iterate on the chosen one(s). I'm not into painting and graphics but I think its the way it goes.
Here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aZCn6x1-j_8 starting at the 1:53 mark you can some other sceches that were createt. I would really be happy to see one or two of them in another expantion. Perhaps one of them with an Omen-like hookbill?
But in terms of Amarr design philosophy the Dragoon is correct and fits perfectly into the line of bulky and sturdy ships. +1 for that. 
But the Algos and the Corax are a bit more innovative and sport designs that have never been seen before in eve. The Corax with it ice breaker-submarine like look and the algos as submarine-b52-battlestar:galactica like look are plainly new and are a bit more appealing to my eye. |

I wouldn't be surprised if the Algos and Corax were made by the same designer but he didn't do the Dragoon and/or Talwar, or perhaps he ran out of time and had to rush them.

First time I saw the Dragoon what crossed my mind was... doesn't a ship like this already exists?
And the Talwar is not bad, but wings are not enough to make a good design, the "tank" inspiration was taken too much to the letter, that box on the top could use a lot more work. Both ships look rushed and incomplete.
Algos and Corax look awesome. |

I agree, the Dominx is too much like an upside down shoe.
It needs to sleeker and more imposing like the Megathron.

I have to say it is by far the best designed ship in eve, it even has little lights for the drones follow to land, a spinning bit and some balls. Makes the ship allot more exciting to look at. Yay for spinning stuff

It have very little in common with the Coercer other than it's a tube shape. If you want to pick a ship it resembles you should be comparing it to the Purifier.
That being said, I like the Purifier... and really have no problem with the Dragoon.
To carve a successful niche for yourself in EVE you need to be able to out sell, out produce, out fight,-á out run, or out wit your competitors.
If you can do none of the above, your only option is to complain on the forums that somehow you are at a disadvantage using the exact same tool set-áas the rest of the player base. |

I don't know about the B-52. I think it's more like the B-24 Liberator (http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/e/e6/B-24_Liberators_in_Formation%2C_1980.JPEG/800px-B-24_Liberators_in_Formation%2C_1980.JPEG) with the glass cone and the Davis wings. Actually, Algos looks most like an Avro Lancaster bomber.
I do like the design, but there are two things that bug me:
1. The drone launch/recovery bays could have been attached to the main hull in a better way.
2. What's with the big round mount on the left "wing"? Looks like the spinning radar dish was originally supposed to go there, but the design was changed mid-way and never corrected. |

I think my EVE is broken. All the ships look like tiny boxes with blue and red widgets on them. Sometimes they all flash, but I usually die after that happens.
I know sometimes it's difficult to realize just how much you spend on incidental things each month or year, but seriously, EVE is very cheap entertainment compared to most things... If you are a smoker, smoke one less pack a week and pay for EVE, with money left over to pick up a cheap bundle of flowers for the EVE widow upstairs. |

It is not so much the actual look/shape of the Domi, it is just that the detail is, well, sort of smudged looking, whereas the Navy Domi is fine.

Algos looks so perfect when it turns, it shares some of the awesomeness of the Talos and is very deeply Gallente in aesthetics.
Best of all, it's a fantastic ship in combat, I see myself flying it a lot.
Props also for Corax design, just as much a success in both racial traits and pure good looks!
About the Domi- my corp makes extensive use of this incredibly powerful battleship, and it's one of my long time favourites as what comes to it's features. We really like the ship... but it could really use a redesign. Add a visible drone bay, make it a bit longer and rework it's face- it looks like a tired, long-faced space pope. The bulbous forehead is another problematic feature. Borrowing more from the sleek but massive looks of whales might not be a bad direction.
Redesigning such iconic ships is of course a considerable challenge, but whoever did the new Mega did a great job, so I think it's in good hands :)

I agree, the Algos is a great looking ship. One of the best new releases in some time I think. Of course we all have our own tastes and they can't make everyone happy.
As far as the Dragoon goes, clearly the inspiration for the model came from the spork that the Dev was eating with at the time. |

Dragoon looks OK and fits well into the Amarr ship line.
I am more concerned about this ships complete failure to catch up with it prey, make use of its neut-bonus or make the drones deliver any meaningful damage to fast moving frigs.
But I guess this would be an entirely different topic.
