Hey guys, so today I logged into eve and was playing and wanted to listen to some Below the Roids. I go to accessories tab, and then click... no... what the hell?
WHERE IS THE JUKEBOX?
Thinking it must be an interface bug i go to hotkey menu and set Ctrl+Shift+J as a shortcut for jukebox. Saved settings, come back and then hit ctrl+shift+J.
Nothing.
CCP What the hell have you done? You've taken away my favorite part of eve, the Jukebox, with Retribution. Please put the Jukebox back in, it kicks ass. |

I like not having to alt tab out to change the music tracks. I like being able to pick a track to play whenever I want while at the same time hearing cool event music when I enter a plex or am doing a mission. Oddly my game still has in-game sound without the jukebox. Maybe your client is broken. And this was not a surprise, folks. They only announced this a couple of weeks ago

Its in some ways a handy feature to allow personal playlists into the game, not many other games offer that without serious modding. Though... ccp picking playlists based on location and situation seems to add more atmosphere, and immersion.
Maintaining a MP3 player also takes resources that could be used in other places.
From the list of changes, sounds like they adding a heck load more of sound related stuff, so its certainly not like they abandoning it.

I have to support this the jukebox made it easy to music play without having to alt tab in and out of the game it also added a convenient interface for pausing the music. as for claiming that it takes resources to maintain a jukebox that is bullshit it probably took more time for the developers to REMOVE the code than it would have to leave it in. and what is there to maintain about an mp3 function ?? last time i checked mp3 technology is was fairly simple and efficient it is yet another example of developers thinking they know best without actually thinking. |

i don't know , if the subjectwriter is a troll, but i 'am not. I mean it serious.
If you say nobody cares about eve's music , it is arrogant. Perhaps i had a chance to red it on the devblog, but what have i done in this situation ? starting a petition ? collection signes? Perhaps the most people don't use it, i don't know, but it was important for me and my user experience in playing eve. really.

Who are you to decide?
The music/jukebox is a significant part of the product I buy.
Playing EVE without music is not playing EVE for me. So now that I don't have the jukebox anymore, I have to log out and log in again when the music (for some reason) stops to play.

I support the removal of the jukebox; but only because it seemed impossible to make a 'stop' button on it. Every pilot in eve, except for the 40 of you that posted before me, turn the music slider all the way down in the settings.
A more elegant solution would have been to put a stop button that kept it permanently stopped between sessions, but I still support the complete removal of it. Good job CCP for removing 1 more small irritation from the game. |

Coming soon, the removal of PvP in high sec from EvE. That, after all, would remove a major irritation for a whole lot of people.
CCP, bring back jukebox. I think it's clear by the point that the only people that would listen to what you want to replace it with, don't want it replaced.

Sooooo after the first twenty times of that thing playing through i asked how to shut it down and have never bothered with it since. It sounds like music that would play on an old Commodore 64 out of the games from back in the late 1980's. I get that you miss it but the songs are available on https://soundcloud.com/ccpgames so quit yer b!tchin already.
I have said it before- this is CCP's game... we are just playin in it, and they will change it how they want- when it goes too far for anyone's personal sensibilities they will quit it. It's just that simple, so deal with it as best you can, but at the end of the day if you can't, then perhaps you need to talk to a professional about it (they have medications ya know). |

I think the issue most people have with the change in sound system is that there is no option to controll it. the dynamic location aware sound can still work with a jukebox just put check box inside the jukebox to switch from manual to automatic music selection... ahhh genius. to remove the system completely and not replace it with some similar system to change the music is criminal i am surprised concord didn't carpet bomb CCP for that. |

So, the game also has things like a notepad, internet browser, calculator, etc. Those exist outside of the game, will CCP take those away as well? What about the chat system? There are plenty of other ways for me to chat to people outside of the game, so why not free up some more of those "valuable resources" by removing talking? Why even have portraits when there could just be an external site for people to upload pictures? In fact, I'm pretty sure there are some other games that have spaceships in them too, so why not just let them handle that sort of thing so you don't have to worry about it CCP?

I liked the jukebox. I don't run multiple eve clients while I do run full screen. As such it was nice and handy. I also recommended to new people that they download the E-Uni class recordings into a custom play list so they could learn about the game while playing.
I also liked the ability to simply "advance" when not in the mood for a given tune or pause/stop it if something important came up - such as voice comes issues or the like.
I do miss it.
That said, if it's extra work keeping it up to date and if it causes issues in other areas - leave it gone.
The more focus on game mechanics and fixing the UI - the happier I'll be. If it is a difficult part to keep going, I'd much prefer it gone than having it potentially prevent other fixes from coming out.
I just don't know how much extra work was involved.
Again, if it's not a major problem to keep it around, please do restore it. If so, I can live without it but it is missed. |

I'm missing the jukebox a lot too.. I'm a guy that actually likes in-game music a lot and I loved to switch sometimes to my fav "Below the Asteroids" song... It made me go pownage on big battles. and kept me company for when I locked myself in a WH.
I also liked the quick ability to pause it for voice conversations or when it was unwanted
So please give it back if it is not a to big problem... I saw some great idee's here already about making it a option |

All the 'location aware' system seems to do is cut the playlist from 60 tunes to about 5. Virtually all the music in eve, with the exception of the instrumental heavy metal that used to play when going into a deadspace plex, is gentle ambient music that could be listened to in any situation. |

Location music sounds like a great idea, but all I do is mine.... so I only hear one song... and that song does not work well with my narcoleptic tendancies. Use Alt+Tab everyone keeps telling me, yes yes I know, but how about just put back the truely awesome feature that was one of the main reasons I fell in love with this game? a built in music player that I can use my own custom mp3s! EVERY GAME SHOULD HAVE THIS OPTION. Previous games that let you do something similar never really got it right, Eve Online was the first one that worked exactly the way I needed it to. It was freaking awesome and you know it, please put it back. |

Liked being able to to add my own tracks. Small gang PvP to Pantera's Vulgar Display of Power was -da ****- and now it's gone. Oh sure, I could alt-tab away to some other means to play it, but that's when something juicy comes through the gate and I'm three seconds behind...at the least I miss a spot on the Killmail, at the most I'm halfway to blown up.
This is like pulling ABC sites from w-space. Nobody shoots at a statue or anything, you just change it because ???. Don't you have enough real work to do without messing with the sweet, sweet minutiae? What did the jukebox ever do to you?

And just in case CCP developers need a hint on how it is to play EVE without a jukebox, mining in a system and listening the same 3 tracks for 40 minutes is not a favorable condition. CCP Unifex: -á"lurking single players (...)-áare the majority of characters on Tranquility"
...And so now we know why CCP hasn't done anything for soloers since Apochrypha. |

After a 4-5 year hiatus from the game one of the first 5 things i looked for when i returned was the jukebox.
Being able to select your own song at will was one of the more unique aspects of the game in fact the music in this game helps to add to the immersion, the music is almost hypnotic in that it helps you forget you are in your chair in front of your computer and perhaps actually out there in space with your ship...(although it could be the cannabis helping as well)
the music in this game really adds to the atmosphere in my opinion ...so perhaps instead of a mp3 player a play list that you can put on default game settings, but the player will always have the ability go to the play list and pick a song out that you want while in game, or a setting that just goes through the play list..
Personally i would keep that in game music player right at the bottom right of my screen, so i could see what song is playing (after all how else did we learn what songs we loved, now new players will never know) lower or increase the volume, this was helpful in those mission where this obnoxious loud music starts to play that is in total contrast to what you have been hearing prior to that.
its all about player choice...devs can do their thing make it default, and allow us to choose if we wish...
Please add this back the jutebox and the music really stood out for me and did cross my mind when i was thinking about resubscribing |

Here here! Agreed 100%. I loved that Jukebox, because it allowed me to play music I wanted, and that whenever I'm doing something that has special event music kick in, it would seemlessly stop my music to start everything else.
Sure, having an external jukebox makes sense. But it was so much cooler! :D
If there's a way to combine the new system with the old jukebox, kudos. |

Just add an option to let people decide between auto and manual. I've lost all my favourite eve songs and I'd rather not be alt-tabbing to Soundcloud the whole time.

Although it's may be nice to still have the jukebox to listen to the OST sometimes. How boring is this... Gone to play STO long ago. It's has a hell of lot of flaws, but at least in it i can do more than just meaningless PvP here. |

I have to say the 'dynamic music' system we have now is ok, in a sense it gives an accurate sense of fitting: for example, when entering lowsec or a WH, music suddenly changes to a more fitting one, remembering where you are.
However, it turns itself to be annoying when travelling around in the same type of space, let's say highsec, and music changes apparently randomly every 2 systems, right when I am enjoying the song. Sometimes it's even more bizarre, logging in with a certain song and then changing just seconds after seeing my docked ship. Moreover, while all songs are great (including the new WH-0.0 ones), you can end up tired of being forced to hear the same ones over and over again, having to change space type to hear something different (even a quick WH trip ends up to be boring in that sense; I prefer not to imagine living there or in nullsec).
I'd vote for being able to enable the old jukebox or the new one at will, from game settings, so you can hear the song you want or keeping the location-sensible mode active whenever you want. Oh, and please, add the new WH-0.0 themes to the old jukebox. |

Removal of existing content is not the same as asking the game to "do everything" - it's restoration of previous abilities. Many were happy to see some old effects come back - do you think this change would anger a lot or simply please a portion of the community?
Running this game full screen is enjoyable to many, outside of those who multi-box/mutli-session their alts - and this makes it much more playable and enjoyable to those players - especially being able to quickly pause a song from full-screen if something happens PvP wise. |

As I'm sure others have stated, being forced to use a third party application in addition to the Eve client is a less than optimal solution. Having to tab out of the game at the wrong time can get you blown up. Running yet another app in the background can be a performance issue. In addition, CCP removed functionality from the game that many of us found extremely useful and the new "dynamic" music system just doesn't cut it. I spend most of my time in low sec and end up hearing the same 2-3 songs over and over.
I don't get why the CSM members who've replied in this thread are so dismissive. At least humor us and bring this issue up with CCP so that we can get a response straight from the devs as to why the jukebox won't be brought back.

Its quite the testimony to the persistence of the EVE community that this is STILL being chased.
A system that plays tracks that lots of people have said they dont like listening to but allows them to skip over for the tiny handful that they DO like listening to...... IF CCP can bring it back without crippling some other apparently unrelated system, I say that they should. Given CCPs track record for adding stuff without breaking other stuff though ...... hmmmm
I think I'll stick to listening to my MP3s and CDs with the EVE music turned off. Some of the EVE music is good, but sadly, most of it is just noise and whales humping.
I rate EVE's music on a par with WiS, utterly irrelevant and a waste of effort.

I would agree with you mostly, Dorrann, though I personally enjoy the whales humping, but I think there is a very large difference in the development resources used by WiS vs. what's used by the jukebox. It had the functionality to add your own music to the jukebox folder and play it in-game via the jukebox, and to create your own playlists. Sadly, I discovered this feature mere days before it was removed, and I did not get around to playing with it.
I think if people knew about what the jukebox could have done for them, they would have liked it more. Also, I do not believe it costs much more development time and programming code than the ambient music system. I'd like to have both in my game. And a zone shouldn't have one 8-minute track of nothing playing on an infinite loop! Not everyone makes a quick flight through nullsec before jumping right back to highsec! There are people who actually live in nullsec! *shock* They don't wanna hear that hissy crap 24/7! Fit a warfare link to your tech 1 battlecruiser. Train Wing Commander. Get in the Squad Commander or Wing Commander position. Your fleets will be superior to everyone else's. |

Whilst I didn't like all the songs, I loved the ability to pick and choose what I listened to and when.
Now, having returned after almost 2 years off, I have to go to soem other website out of eve (not even able to use the IGB..should we expect that to go soon too? I mean...we have firefox, chrome and IE for that too right?). Having to tab out or what have you just to play music that was in the game originally but removed is really a sub optimal approch and suggested fix. Almost ot the point of being very very lazy design.
If it ain't broke, don't fix it.
Would be nice to get it back but I sadly doubt anything would happen, especially with a CSM that doesn't seem to care. |

Ignore De'Veldrin , she is nothing but a common troll. We should be used to them on the Internet by now. Besides her argument has no validity and makes no sense. Like I said a common troll, who is most likely just an angry person who hates themselves deep down, hence why she is "that guy." Or perhaps she takes the opposite stance because she does not want to be the same as everyone else, which honestly makes her the same as every troll on the Internet. That shows and immense weakness of character, so honestly we should feel bad for her as she is clearly a shallow and empty individual, sad panda It's funny these kinds of people fancy themselves intelligent beyond most and hence behave in a condescending manner completely unaware of how ignorant it really makes them sound. Go sit in in you corner sweetheart and contemplate the next stupid thing you will say. I wait with bated breath for your retort, you're hatred gives me power. On a note more related to to the topic, I do miss the Jukebox itself as well. "Glowing Red Dust" is the ****. While the Jukebox may not be necessity, but rather a convenience due to the fact that someone put it on sound cloud, thank you by the way my man, it is appreciated by the mass of the player population and CCP would be wise not to upset the people paying their salary. We the people buy your game, and while some players may just be whiny bitches, (who If CCP catered to the weak link constantly, which was blizzards downfall with WoW, you get just that, a broken piece of garbage) there is something to be said about listening to your subscribers. And CSM's please look at that other thread and please ask ccp the questions that us the players have been asking. Alot of us want to see the information used in the dection to remove the jukebox because it was not used that often apparently, Yet does that information also show how many accounts where logged in on the same machine? Common sences says if a mining fleet for example is been run off 1 computer and has 3 hulks and 1 orca, you have 1 jukebox playing there for of course the jukebox will show its not been used much durrrr |

CCP has done a lot of dough headed dumb ass things recently. Removing the Juke Box is one of them. Fix this and bring it back in the next update.

Not one "Eve has sound...?" I've been following this and the Jukebox Petition thread for a while now, and I don't know if all of the "EVE has sound?" posts are in the same thread, but they're int here somewhere and there's several of them. The Jukebox Petition thread (linked in post #124 above) is up to 28 pages now. Fit a warfare link to your tech 1 battlecruiser. Train Wing Commander. Get in the Squad Commander or Wing Commander position. Your fleets will be superior to everyone else's. |

I find it odd CCP would go through ''hell'' trying to get Twitch integrated, so how hard can it be to put back a revamped Jukebox?
People don't like boxing in and out of the client to change music all the time. Some people like to listen to the EVE tracks ingame instead of an exported soundcloud playlist etc. |

Frankly if I have to hear the same crap again one more time I'm filing a complaint with the UN. Waterboarding isn't THIS bad...
Unless your thread is limited to how 'awesum!' Eve Online is, ISD will lock the thread.-á You will find it is particularly common if CCP might have to make a public response to the thread subject, as opposed to bury it in the GM que for the forseeable future and then prohibit telling anyone what the GM said, if it's ever answered at all. |

most likely reason was it caused some drainage on the server that could have been freed up for other resources like...PvPing or such. |

Since the jukebox was entirely client side, unlike the new system which takes cues from the server, it actually increased the amount of server resources used, not decreased.
Also, their official excuse was that 'we don;'t want to do this!' Not because it was even hard, but because it was hard to get to integrated with Twitch, which some people use, but most people don't.

A lot of people do, but there's another thread for demanding it back. Though you can also just send the sound guy a PM saying 'Needs More Jukebox'. |
