Hello everyone,
I just recently became aware of the live events and tried to participate in September only to realize after jumping 35 jumps to get into the action that the fight had taken place the day before. I realized soon that obviously my time zone calculations were off. Currently as I understand it, the only way for me to find out about these is to scour the forums for info regarding current events. Looking specifically for locations and times so I can participate. The process of looking through forums for live-event information seems a bit laborious to me. I enjoy the banter and discussion, however think that a streamlined approach for delivering the "key" information (Live-event location and time and updates as needed) is necessary. My suggestion is that there be created a specific area on the main or community website that deals with live-event news updates, possibly with a calendar where capsuleers can "plan ahead" for upcoming events.
Another suggestion to deal with this is perhaps a little harder to implement as it involves new coding within the game, but it would be cool if there was an option somewhere within the in-game calendar that allowed ccp to download in game live-event locations and times directly into our calendars in game. Maybe even with links to systems where the event is occuring to make it easy for us to just check the calendar, set destination, activate a ship and be off to engage and participate.
Please keep this post going with other suggestions. Also, keep in mind I am new to live-events and may not be aware of all the resources currently available to find out locations and times. Although I do love the idea of the in-game live-event channel and welcome this addtion. I will be checking this channel out everytime I log-in now! :-)
Thanks CCP! I love the idea of live-events. Keep em coming. |

Also, just thought of something to add. If an in-game calendar system could be implemented it would be cool if we could tell the client what our native time zone is and have it automatically calculate and adjust all times in-game or in calendar respectively. Just a thought to help clear up confustion regarding time-zones and such. |

The problem with pre-announcing live events is that it's terribly immersion breaking, and in most instances the storyline side of things doesn't hold water if people have advanced warning.
Typically, the Live Events Twitter feed announces live events just before they're happening, or in the case of surprise attacks like the second assault on Rilnais, just as the action is kicking off.
It's all part of the story that people have to piece together parts of the puzzle, and these events have never just been a case of turn up to an advertised location and shoot at CCP actors for loot.
A big part of what makes live events such an intricate part of the storyline is that players hear rumors, sometimes days before hand, along with the appearance of actors in various channels in game that give away hints and clues as to what's going on.
Hope this explains things

It's also the reason why I'm always missing out on these. |

This thread will help you then. We've been following these things for a while, so we're getting good at working out some rough times and locations. That way you can at least move a ship nearby (as well as a Jump clone if you feel like it) so oyu can get there quicker and be ready to go.
Also, as a freebie, the "next" main event we're waiting on is a bunch of Blood Raiders invading Amarrian space and stealing a bunch of people to drink their blood. It appears to involve multiple systems, so the best staging system at the moment is Amarr. http://www.dust514.org - the unofficial forum for everything DUST 514 http://www.dust514base.com - the blog site with everything else DUST 514 you need

Just to keep everyone from getting their hopes up too high, with the holidays coming up, any Live Events are likely to be fairly small scale until the new year. Community Representative GÇ+ EVE Illuminati GÇ+ Fiction Adept

One other problem with announcing live events is the suddenly buttsex which will quite often descend on them.

It's not that it's not wanted. It's just not wanted all the time, and not straight away. http://www.dust514.org - the unofficial forum for everything DUST 514 http://www.dust514base.com - the blog site with everything else DUST 514 you need

In a pen-and-paper DnD session, it's not immersion-breaking for the DM to announce, out of character, what we can expect for the evening (fights or storytelling), and roleplayers are pretty good at keeping the in-character and out-of-character separated.
Bottom line, you get better participation and overall impact if you announce, the way you've done just now. "DED Fleet departing" is sufficient. "Possible Live Event" entries in the Calendar, with no details about when/where.
