So everyone has heard about the "touchiness" of CONCORD when it comes to right and wrong. Here I was , minding my buisness in a .9 asteroid field, mining away to recoup cash for a ship i had lost earlier , when I see an Interesting sight.
I see a IndyII approaching me, gets withing 50 m and stops. Then,I see a noob velator in the distance, also heading toward me. Im thinking something is kinda fishy here, as both ships bear the name Clayburn, of Pinnacle Mining
It too gets within 50m of me. Soon as it stops, the INDYII moves off . I activate my small shield booster, cause I'm no fool and bam the Velator blows up right beside me giving damage.
Interestingly enough, while Concord will kill ya for area of effect damage,or for any minor transgression, self destructing your ship does not draw the cops , even if the blast radius affects another ship.

CONCORD doesn't pod, so they wouldn't react :)
9since the offenders ship is already gone)

I don't get it. What was the point of self-destructing the Velator?

I was wondering that too, but If you look at it another way. if i was afk, did not have shields up, and had 2 of the big expanded cargo containers on, I'm wondering if my hull integrety would hold or would I blow up.
Then, all my ships items, plus the accumulated cargo mined could be picked up by the waiting Indy ?

That's really wierd.
REALLY wierd.
But, I doubt an exploding Velator will do much damage. ------------- My salsa makes all the pretty girls want to dance and take off their underpants. I <3 ( . Y . ) |

Yeah...I never knew self-destructing n00b ships did so much damage. Maybe a wave of kamikaze Velators, but one ship?

If I see an Indy park itself next to me and then a little later a velator come in system I will quickly eject and board his indy. I'll self destruct the thing and then hop back in mine.

You're missing the point. This was the portscan prior to the DDoS.
Now he knows that if he does this, it is not viewed as "aggressive" and CONCORD won't spank his ass. In addition, i guarantee that had you returned fire, you would have been autoganked.
So if he and his mates do with 75 velators, they know they'll take no sec hit and will be immune to retaliation. Or with larger ships they no longer want or need.
Or with larger ships they've made for this purpose, having the BP for them and an excess of wealth from being jerks.
Just more busy exploiters hard at work.
You are in a maze of twisty little asteroids, all alike. |

Surely blowing up a bigger ship (thus giving a more powerful explosion) is hardly likely to prove profitable.

Yawn... another high security sob story... ::plays worlds smallest violin:: while I'm glad you didn't get ganked by Concord, why oh why are you mining right now? Don't you know you can make exponential profit right now off of doing trade. Since every security zone is locked up tight with sentry guns, you might as well stop mining and do trade routes since there is 0 risk in it right now. CCP is already starting plans to stop this... so you might as well get it while the getting is good.
::goes back to playing SWG::
I can't wait till ccp fixes this game... I can only stand blasting small creatures for so long...

People still need to replace ships they've lost, so presumably minerals are required if you have the relevant BP. --
