I just bought a new ship and fitted an afterburner to it. It works fine when I activate it - however when I fly somewhere N jumps away I expected the autopilot to turn the afterburner on to approach the stargates faster. Instead after every warp I have to manually activate it (Autopilot stays on and jumps when in range) however I'm oftern in another window doing something else and don't really want to keep flipping back to turn on the afterburner.

Modules that require activation can only be activated by you, not by your ship.
If it's spped you want, and you have lowslots available, fit some Nanofibers.
Another option is to make BMs, but since my BMs get me further from a target, I'm not the person to elaborate on that.

For afk fast travel in safe territories and enough cargo space available, fit overdrive injectors, the give more speed than nanofibers.

Don't fly without watching the game. Use windowed mode to speed up the process of activating the AB everytime you hear "approaching stargate" if you really must do something else in the meantime. Well, if you MUST do something, you shouldn't be playing at that time.

sorry - but flying arround 11 jumps whilst doing nothing just doesn't appeal.

Then perhaps this game is not for you. Frankly, 11 jumps is nothing.

Too right, 11 jumps is like walking to the local shop in RL

Perhaps not :( shame. It's not that I mind flying 11 jumps - it's just that I want to be able to surf the web / browse forums whilst it's doing it. So I want the AB to turn on by itself.

No, you can go afk, but you pay two prices for it.
1. you are slower (no AB/MWD/insta's) 2. you are more at isk
Thats all, and its perfectly fine that way. Wouldnt be fun to have everyone running around afk now would it ? _______________________________________________

Either use windowed mode and switch back from time to time.
OR fit all your low slotys with overdrives.
I always browse the forums while travelling. Its a knack.

I always browse forums and stuff when I'm flying. It's really fast doing doing alt+tab and then alt+f1 and then alt+tab again. (that is Tab to eve, activate afterburner, tab back to explorer window). The message that your autopilot is approaching stargate is what tells you when to tab in. Also, you will hear if something target you and you will quickly be able to react to whatever it is.

I run in windowed mode so I know if i get attacked or something. Also I want to play another game on another machine which I can pause and deal with combat in eve if I need to - but it's annoying to have to pause to turn on the AB all the time.
I will check out overdrives - thanks :)
