After using light missles since day one I have come to the conclusion that while fun they are very expensive compared to the damage that they do. I can do more damage with one salvo from a 250 light artillary gun than from one Bloodclaw but the bloodclaw costs 1200 Isk while the EMP round from the 250 costs 7 or something like that. Is this the norm? If so what good are the light missles and I have heard that the heavies are about the same.

I've been flying stabber/rupture (2-3 missile hard slots) and to be honest have never really seen the "benefit" of using missiles at all...
The damage/cost ratio of missiles vs turrets is ridiculously low, even when assuming you actually hit your targets and there are many ways to defend against missiles (smartbombs, defenders, etc) unlike with turrets.
I'd take an extra turret slot in exchange for the missile slots anyday unless missiles were made "useful" in the future.

Defending against turrets got alot easier in last patch - tracking speed.
At least missles don't suffer from tracking and thier dmg load is alot more predictable.
I wouldn't use missles in PvE, but I'd surely load em up for a PC pirate hunt.

I get mine from pirates. Rather cheap.

I use heavies all the time in NPC fights, tips the scales against the cruisers.
I find them great to use as I can determine when I want the damage to hit. Guns are fairly unreliable, when I know that cruiser needs to go down a salvo of missiles will take it out guaranteed.
They are more expensive than ammo, but when you look at how many shots it takes to get 150 damage (modified) these days it starts to balance out. ************************************ Explorer Extradonaire Any contract large or small Http://www.explore-eve.net |

I have a Kestrel the missiles are OK. But when I fire two FoF at the same time they seem to take each other out. Stick to one at a time. I tend to take more damage from the blast radius of a missile than the pirate themselves so keep your distance. With a ship dedicated to missile launchers you can also have mines. Which cause big bangs. Carry a smart bomb to just in case. Basically with missiles you have to take the shot to maximise your chance of hitting the target much more challenging than a computer operated turret.

i fly a caracal. if used right (hard to do) they are effective. one salvo of cruise missiles from a caracal destroys a moa's shield, armor and damages the hull. I just started useing missiles and so far they are usfull....kinda
I don't get the F.O.F missile ( friend or foe? ) I thought you could just launch it without a lock but when I tried to do that it said there where no targets. So I locked a pirate and shot it..... am I missing something if you have to lock how is it different from a normal missile?

You're buying missiles too expensively. Depending on how you can shop, you can get missiles as low as 400 isk. If you got a production line of your own, even better.
I use missiles to supplement a turret based attack. If you got four or five significant NPC threats towards you, missiles help kill the first two or three quickly. I just use guns on the remainers.
I do not waste missiles on targets that can be killed by guns alone. I use missiles to hasten the demise of targets in order to kill them quickly. In fact, I don't use autorepeat on my M-12s---just manual shots. Sometimes I use an A-3 with autorepeat. An A-3 reloads faster before an M-12 can autorepeat.

Same here, though I only use looted missiles. When surrounded by five NPC rats I like to switch targets a lot. Blow down their shields with EMP, whittle them down with Plasma, move on to the next and finish one or two with a missile.

I use rockets in one launcher, which can hold 40 rockets compared to 20 missles, 50d per hit, Set on auto fire.
My second launcher loaded with heavy missles, I like widowmaker's, (the name has a nice ring to it, it's kinda like the smell of napalm, which when you smell it, lets you know death has just visited the area) set on manual as a finisher.
Ya just can't miss with missles.
Actually I have the heart of an Exploiter and a PKer---I keep them on my desk in a jar. |

You are BUYING missles.. Gah.
You manufacture them for your corp or for yourself. Make an alt, set him up with a couple of fac slots and grind out ammo and missles. My minimum piranna run is 1000.
This way you can send salvo after salvo and not be worried about cost. Set some A-3's and heavies up in auto repeat and just keep feeding them. Before they know it thier ship is surrounded in a cloud of missles.
