I remember reading a post a while back where a GM was trying to help us with the problem with roid's popping and our mining lasers still running
at the time I could have sworn that when a laser was mining a roid it would shut off when the roid popped (and not at the end of the cycle (and then pop the roid)) the problem at that time was that if you had multiple mining lasers on the samme roid several of them would not have a yield as they would just run till the end of the cycle and since the roid was already popped it would not retrive any Ore at all
well today as I was mining (doing that atm actuelly) I noticed that my mining lasers do NOT shut off when the roid is empty (like I could have sworn they did just a few days ago) and of course the original problem remains that if you have multiple mining lasers on the samme roid and it pops you do not get any yield from several of the lasers
now IF there was a way to mark wich rocks was wich (using a scanner) but there is no way to mark the Omber roid with 800 left from the one with 11000 making the scanner kinda useless (for this purpose)
anyway if we could either get our lasers fixed so that they shut off when the roid is empty (even when multiple lasers are on the samme roid) or get a way to mark wich roids to mine would be much apreciated
Thank You Paw Sandberg

With Empire ores like omber, the problem can be reduced by aiming one or two mining lasers each at their own asteroid, depending on exactly how many lasers you have, and how high your targeting skills are.
For the 0.0 stuff, it's a little trickier, but not impossible. Say you're working on a nice juicy lump of crokite, and you're wondering when to stop and move on to the next one without popping it. Run your scanner again and right-click each of the crokite results that come back. The one that offers "unlock target" instead of "lock target" is the one you're hitting atm, because it's already locked.
Therefore, knowing which rock to mine next is simply a matter of targeting the biggest one that isn't currently targeted.

I am new to the game but the thread raised a question in my mind. When a 'roid 'pops', does it cause any damage or is it just a matter of wasted time for unproductive mining lasers? Thanks :)

When a roid pops it can kill a lightly armoured ship like a mining barge.
afaik the laser carries on till the end of the cycle and you get nothing. Maybe me and mining dont get along
I was joking about the damage btw, no damage, just wasted time and cap, mining lasers eat a lot of cap.

Well thats not completely true. Some alliances if you pop a roid, they pop you.

It would be great if the scanner results populate an extra column in the overview. All this high tech stuff in your ship and it's unable to do a simple table join. _______________________________________________ CCP fix an amazing 9.09% of the bugs I report!! Find Out More |

Make a gang with you and some random dude in it and tag the roids with numbers and /or letters to keep them apart. Might be somewhat tricky to sort out first time but once done it lasts till the gang is dissolved. _______________________________________________
