Hey
I am in a small corporation (5 active players)
and I have put up a small pos..really wanted to try it
but..after doing so..also did some moon harvesting...
I can only ask this..HOW DO YOU EARN ANY ISK ON THIS ????
All I do all day long is getting fuel for it..the stuff I can mine sell for less than 1% of what the fuel costs..
not to talk about how many millions I have spend on POS Equipment..
so..how do you earn any isk on a pos ???

my guess is that it's not an isk maker, but an isk saver for people that build tech 2 stuff. i'm sure people would be willing to buy ice though :)

Maybe you are right..but what should a small corp do then ???
I mean..we cant mine regular ones all day long..it gets a bit boring after 1-2 minutes.

i beleive key is specialisation, people will have to train only mining skills in order to have a large barge , mining *3 ice, and because he will have learned only mining he will do then what he best know, mining...
About small pos for mining, it should be more somple complement to other pose large - med needing one extra raw for reactions. ---- Sauvez les castors, mangez la foret! |

Money is made in either mining rare moon materials or reacting cheap moon materials (bought or mined) into expensive refined products.
Small POS themselves are only useful on the mining rare option, thought a large is more than four times better. They and medium are, however, feasably profitable as grunts mining non-rares that you than use a large to react into sellables. |

Don't mine the ice/fuel. Just buy it with isk. Its only 60 - 100m isk a month to buy the fuel for a small pos.

60-100mil pr month is a lot for small corp..where people still do try to have a RL also :)

So dont have a POS unless you can run it easily _______

You have to be fairly dedicated to the POS to make any money. You're gonnna have to find some way for it to be worth your time, or worth your isk. If you care enough you'll survey til you find something that will make you SOME profit. If you're lucky you'll even get a good amount.
I'm running a large POS all by myself, and it's 40 jumps out of empire. I assure you that your corp is sufficient to run a small.
My advice is to buy all the fuel you don't want to mine for. But, before you even get the thing running find a way to make it worth it, either in isk or satisfaction to you. |

Edited by: Lidza on 17/05/2005 17:12:36 I'm running a small POS alone.
I find very easy to control the "fuel" requirements even buying all of them from the market.
So for a small corp its really easy to support and maintain a small POS.
But my suggestion is...
if your corp has 5 members then go for a medium POS and not for a small POS due to the following constraints:
low power output low CPU output less protection slow mining output
As you probably guessed, you wouldn't be able to fit some valuable modules in a small POS such as 2nd moon array or even a refiner. So small POS is very limited
For a corp of 1 or 2 then a small POS is the right thing if one of them is whiling to look after it.
The montly fuel costs (from the market) are around 148m Isk.
I havent made the calc since I moved the POS to other moon... but I suspect that even with one of the top end ores I probably wouldn't see a huge profit in this operation.
Spite that and if you (your corp) has ISK for it then start looking for a good moon... because that also represents a good expensive thing... not only in time wasted but in ISK invested on probes.

I run a Large POS solo I keep cpu and Power to a minimum. I think the key is to do your research, take your time, and find a good moon with a good metal. With the ammount i mine i can cover the cost of the fuel easily and still get a 2m per week profit. Though its not much, a profit is a profit.

I run a small POS by myself. Here is a hint. Take it down right now. Make sure you have a moon mining array and a silo. Mine ice for 1 month without refining anything. While over that month gather all the stuff you need (robotics, mechanic parts, etc) when the month is over go set it back up and start the process. If you get the right moon you will be able to make money and sell the materials. With 5 people you should be able to get close to a month and a half to 2 months of ice and stuff to run it easy. With these you must MOON MINE to make money.
To go into battle without knowing yourself, you can not defeat your opponent. Even then you are only as good as your knowledge and experience.

Welcome to the POS world. It can be a world of frustration and fun.
First off, you need to decide what you're POS is going to be used for. Safe Base? Production? Mining platform? This is vital to determine how your POS will need to be set up and which size of tower you want to use.
Secondly, where do you plan to set up yor operation? 0.0? or 0.1-0.3?
I have had very little experience in 0.0 operations so I will not comment on that, other than to say it can be very profitable, but also very dangerous, and a logistical nightmare when transporting trade fuels.
If you have a small tower, then expect to mine 1 really valuable metal such as Promethium or Dysporite which can only be found in 0.0 for maximum profit.
If your intention is for production of simple or advanced materials, then there are several options available, but they would require a medium or larger tower. I would recommend, as someone stated earlier, RESEARCH. Specifically, find out what is in short supply? what are most interested in obtaining? What would be within your ability to obtain? What types of materials are you able to locate to mine?
I know of several was in which a POS can turn a profit. I currently run 4. However I know of a few that operate 6-9 towers and obviously all are profitable.
If you require any idea, join POS funtime channel in game. Lots there to offer helpful advice.
Otherwise, feel free to convo me, I'll be happy to provide any suggestions.
