Hi everyone!
I just have a quick question regarding small frigate pvp. If I were to lead a couple buddies (7 or 8) out into low / null sec, would we have a viable chance of downing a solo target? Especially if we strategically fit our modules and such? We are planning on giving it a shot soon to get some experience in pvp.
Thanks for any help you can give,
Siekman. |

Even if all 8 ships are newish pilots in t1-fit t1-frigates, almost no individual ship could directly take on all 8. Your chances go up or down based on how your ships are fit, how they're flown and whether your fleet composition makes sense (consider bringing some ewar and maybe a logistics frig), but in general 8 ships will murder the hell out of 1 ship |

With the new frig rebalance, a 7-8 man frig gang would do quite well, even against 2 or 3 larger targets as long as theyre within reason and the FC is capable. You will obviously die horribly if you decide to take on everyone all willy-nilly like. Since the cessation of their usefulness is imminent, may I appropriate your belongings? |

any ewar is ur friend ... u need webs on 3 ships ... rest should be ewar centric - TDS, Damps etc. remember that damps are ***** if applied to big ships... because sig raridus of frig is so small. BS will take forever to target u.
From my experience true massive ROFL ZOMFG fun with wolfpack starts with 15 people and some ranged dessies u ad. And drop into mix 3 to 4 griffins and u will have lot of tears in local. Frigate roams are relatively common in nullsec. With the large numbers of jumps in between potential target areas it is sometimes ideal for long roams to enemy areas. Unless you come upon another combat gang your most likely targets will be random carebears who wont be able to survive the swarm of frigates beating on them.
In low sec you might have more problems. Gate guns could become a major issue for you. Station guns as well. Frigates wont tank these well. With the new changes from retribution, however, things might be different than before.
There are many easy places to enter null sec and begin roaming. Personally, I would suggest this over low sec. You wont take security hits and you wont have to deal with gate guns. You would probably want to look at Dotlans Eve Maps to get an idea where people are heavily populated and where large numbers of npcs are being killed in the last 3 hours before making your journey. |

Thanks for all your responses :).
We went tonight and had a lot of fun, however, we couldn't find anyone. The two people we did find we couldn't actually warp to on the map. So I ask you another question: How do we find people once we are out in low / null sec? I want to actually be able to pewpew people once we're out here :p.
Thanks!

You'll need someone who has patience with the scan interface, an exploration frigate (Magnate, Imicus, Heron, Probe) with an Expanded Probe Launcher using Combat Scanner Probes.

There are tutorials for this on youtube, but make sure you get some practice before trying it for real. Probes show up on d-scan, and non-idiotic ratters will see these and cloak/safe up.
That said, some people rat in anomalies, which you can find by using your ship scanner, which is a different tab of the D-scanner. The tricky part is determining where they are. I usually use D-scan to get a general direction, and then open my solar system map and see if any of the anomalies are in that direction. If they are, great, if not, you'll need the probes.
Remember, narrow down their location as best you can before dropping probes, and if possible, drop them from a spot that the ratter can't d-scan (more than 14.5 AU away. D-scan has a range of 14.3, but better safe than sorry), so there will only be a few seconds for them to notice.
Hope that helps! Happy hunting |

Dracan02 wrote:not a lot can survive 8 frigs, tho some high dps HAC's could cost you a few ships. just remember that ECM is your friend. Very true. Just yesterday we fought against two Talos and one Rupture with a Gang of eight T1 DPS Frigs. We lost 3 (or 4?) Frigates and obliterated the enemy Gang. If we had had one Logistics-Frigate (and one EWAR-Frig perhaps) our losses would have been close to 0.
You might want a FC with just a bit of experience for the first couple of roams, so you don't have to learn every lesson the hard way. But even then - Frigs are cheap.
Know the turf, what you can and can't take (this might take some hard-way-learning) and when a ship is bait.
Most importantly: Have like 5 more of your fit nearby to reship. |

When you jump into a system your scout should be looking at his directional scanner to see if there are any ships on scan and if there are any npc wrecks on scan. These two pieces of information are important for you to find someone to kill. If the system is large you may not see anything from the gate. If it is small you may see everything from the gate that there is to see.
If there are no ships on scan and no wrecks on scan then you can probably move on. The guys in local may be docked, if there is a station, or cloaked up at a safe spot. In either event you probably arent going to get any action unless folks come out to greet you which is not always the case.
If there are npc wrecks on scan someone may be ratting in local. If you have ships on scan this may also be true. Your scout needs to go look for them. You should keep the rest of your gang hidden in the next system or else anyone who was busy here is likely to run to station or safe spots when they see local filling up.
If there are rat wrecks on scan then your target could be in a belt or could be in an anomoly. You can actually tell the difference by looking at your directional scanner results. Regular belt rats will be named something like "Gurista Invader or Dire Gurista Destroyer" or something like that. Anomoly rats are usually named something like Pithi Destroyer or something distinguishable. When your scout knows which one to go looking for he can use his system scanner and go lookin in the anomolies if thats what is called for or can go looking at the belts. Directional scanner can narrow down which belts to look in.
When your scout has been in system for more than a couple of minutes you might as well move on. Targets wont stay busy in space very long with a neutral in local. After a minute or two they will realize they are being looked for and will take measures to get safe.
When roaming in null sec you will go many jumps without seeing anyone in local. Space is relatively unpopulated across eve null sec. Many targets you will find on gate and that is where alot of your battles will take place. |

But yeah as stated use map statistics, dotlan etc. Stick to know hotspots and FW space - Nisuwa, Tama, Nennemalia, Heyd, Amamake, Kourmonen, etc.

Are you serious? I've been playing EVE all this time and didn't know this. I thought if you started attacking randoms in nullsecurity space, you'd take security hits and never be able to go back to high sec! I thought you could only attack outlaws (sec status less then -5) without penalty! |
