In a whirlwind of events largely kept away from the public eye, Shira d'Radonis, former Chairwoman of the infamous Abolition Party of Amarr was taken captive by the Amarrian secret police force. Dozens of other arrests followed and many of the planet-based headquarters were raided. The Amarrian political base of the party were scattered to the wind or imprisoned along with Ms. d'Radonis.
She was brought in for questioning with the Theology Council who then found her guilty of heresy. In order to avoid an international outcry and possible future domestic dissidence, the Council (and the Emperor) decided it would be best to avoid such unpleasantness as a public execution and give her a reduced sentence. She has been imprisoned in the Laddiaha system of Devoid where she will be forced to mine as part of a public service to the Empire indefinitely until she chooses to repent for her crime.
Amarrian political analyst with The Scope Yona Kisana had this to say, "This was a shrewd move on the part of the Theology Council. It's a win-win-win situation. By leaving the length of her sentence entirely up to Ms. d'Radonis, the Theology Council has circumvented international criticism. If she chooses not to repent, she will have given herself a life sentence and she'll remain permanently out of the way. And if she does repent, she will be forced to adhere to the rules, and if she does not, then going back on her word will surely cause her to lose whatever popular support she might have had."
The other Amarrian members of the Party were given similar, but less lenient sentences. Ms. d'Radonis will have one week to gather her things while under constant surveillance before she must report to the prison system. After that, the system's stargates will lock her in and make it impossible for her to jump to another system so that she can complete her requirements as a miner but not be able to flee the Empire. If she is found outside the system, the Theology Council has said, it is the obligation of Amarrian pilots to kill her or recapture her as they would any escaping slave.
A spokesman for the Theology Council added later that they "wish Ms. d'Radonis a speedy recovery and look forward to her restoration as a citizen of the Empire". -----------------------------------------------

This is an outrage! Ms. D'radonis has brought hope to so many dark and desparing places in this galaxy, my own slaves were horrified by this news. I and many others canot stand by and let this happen to such a radical and unique Armarian. Plans for a rescue operation are already in progress, any further information on the exact whereabouts of the prison facilty would be appreciated.

Shira always wanted the Emperor to act, and it looks like he has.

Good riddence to bad rubbish, that's all I have to say. She was a heretic and she had obviously gone mad by the end. It is good to hear that finally the Theology Council has stepped in to stop her madness. ------

Anyone else notice that, taking the defendant into account, the punishment isn't much of a punishment at all? If this is the future of punitive justice, then when I get hauled before some tribunal, I eagerly look forward to my long and arduous sentence at the notorious Free Crash And Daily Rubdowns By Oily Sebiestor Go-Go Dancers penal colony.

Indeed, it seems like a very lenient judgement, considering the court that passed it.

Graelyn, perhaps this article sheds some light on the leniency of the Council's ruling. Please bear in mind though that this is only rumour and hear-say.
I had attempted to contact Ms d'Radonis, but alas it seems that the Amarrian secret police has intercepted my messages.
