I've been doing some thinking of this as of late. Mostly on the lines of the stealth combat ships, something to do that won't make covert ops ships obsolete. This also got me thinking about how things are in reality, when it comes to bombers and fighters. In reality, fighters are smaller craft, like frigates in EVE. Bombers are large craft similar to cruisers in EVE.
Obvious examples would be the Lockheed Martin f-117A Nighthawk, Lockheed Martin F/A-22 Raptor Stealth Fighters and the Northrop Grumman B-2 Spirit Stealth Bomber.
The idea that I want to put forward here, is as follows.
The current stealth bomber frigates should be changed to stealth fighter type ships. Going by memory, the F/A-22 and F-117a use a mix of heavy missiles for hitting ground targets, and guns for air to air engagement. I would suggest using one of the ship bonus's to allow them to fit a couple heavy missile launchers, and then have the rest of the hardpoints be for frigate guns and the cloaking utility slot. Giving a balanced weapons loadout based on the races. The second bonus being the speed boost while cloaked. And others based on race specifics.
Stealth Bombers should become a cruiser class ship. This would put more elite cruisers out there, and sort of make up for the almost craptastic logistics cruisers. This could be problematic of course, because the Amarr do not have a missile using cruiser. To me, the Blackbird, Bellicose, and Celestis would all serve as good stealth bombers models. I don't know what to list for amarr other than possibly the augeror, since I don't think the arbitrator would fit. I would either suggest making cruiser based stealth bombers able to use siege or cruise launchers. Possibly set the powergrid and bonus's so that they could fit a full rack of cruise launchers, but only 2 siege launchers with enough grid for 2 cruise or heavy launchers left over. Other ship bonus's would probably be fairly similar to the stealth fighter ships.
This is just an Idea I'm putting out in the open to ccp. And for the most part any suggestions within reason are welcome to be added.
