I was hoping to get some advice on how to get the most out of my shiny new Taranis, both on setups and how to use it properly. This will be for solo or small group PvP. My current thoughts for a setup are:
HIGH: 3xLight Electron Blaster 2's MEDIUM: MWD,Web,Scrambler LOW: 2xMagnetic Field Stab 2's, 1x Nanofiber
In case you're wondering, the nanofiber is there because the rest of the setup uses all but 0.8 of my grid, and i can't think of anything better to fill it with :)
So, any improvements or thoughts would be appreciated |

Can you fit a MAPC and change those electrons to Neutron IIs? -----------------------------

Edited by: Mac Knife on 16/05/2005 13:19:11 3 ion blaster II's 1 small nosferatu
1 mwd 1 webber 1 warp scrambler
1 mapc 1 tech II dmg mod 1 small armour rep
tbh i dont see the point in using neutrons, yes they do more dmg but ive gone up against a neutron blasting taranis and killed it with my ion setup, that was on a 2on1 with 2 taranis, killed the neutron then the other warp off
Also there is a topic at the head of this forum called "ship setups"
Linkage
Go there, more taranis setups

sorry to burst ur bubble but unless somethings changed recently u wont fit all that on. I tried an ion setup, similar to my neutron fitting but dropping to ions and fitting a nos and there wasnt anyway in hell i woulda got a small rep on
that and the fact that the dmg of ions sucks. A neutron setup would tear u apart b4 that rep, if u can fit it, had time to cycle even once.
TBH, blaster setup is ok for empire but steer clear of missile boats. If ur operating in 0.0 use a rail setup as smart bombs are a lot more common there.

I just did, its what is on my taranis atm
3 ion blaster II's 1 small knave nos
1 x5 webber 1 faint epsilon warp scrambler 1 Catalyzed cold-gas arcjet mwd
1 small rep II 1 tech II dmg mod 1 small tech II repair
tested in a fight and it works, i take into account that the ions do less dmg than neutron but i prefer the tracking and rof, this setup is tested

hmm pilot musta sucked then must be down to the tech1 MWD as i always fit tech2 cos speed of ranis is pretty poor compared to other ceptors.
I still dont think that ion setup would kill my neutron setup but hey, kudos to ya for killing him

Hmm-how do you handle missile boats in a Taranis? Every time i've gone near a crow (or even a Malediction) i get webbed and missile spammed before i can kill them. What am i missing? |

I like to go for all out damage
(Note: You might need Electronics V, Engineering V, weapon upgrades V [and maybe even that 3% cpu implant] to get this to fit. I don't remember offhand )
2x Electron II's, 1x Neutron II 1x MWD I, dual webs (langour preferably -- cpu will be very tight) 3x MFSII's
More DPS than just 2 MFSII's and 3 neutrons. And for the fella that says your target will warp away, my experience is that they really won't if they engage. If they're headed to a gate, you'll******them (speed to 0 almost instantly). If they attack you, you'll******them (they can't get out of blaster range). If they try and run ... well, usually they won't try to run because either a) they assume you've scrambled them and/or b) there just isn't enough time once they realize what's about to happen.
For crows -- the nice thing about crows is that they rely on speed and distance. If you can start fairly close before they launch their first salvo, you'll probably take them out. If you screw up and they get out of web range, you're done. Waiting at a warpin point on a gate a few thousand meters away from where ships come out, you'll get them every time. They might be fast and agile, but once you take that advantage away they just can't take the beating.
Another thing to do is to practice swooping in on a cargo can from 15km, so you learn how to come out of your burst of speed at nearly blaster range. If you don't, you'll almost certainly overshoot and be 8km on the other side of your target -- and taking fire. Nasty against a crow or crusader, sometimes they get lucky and get out of web range -- then your best bet is to run for it
Last tip, is not to orbit with your MWD on. This only sucks away your cap and might be good for a tackler setup, but in inty-vs-inty it'll usually get you killed. Instead, use "keep at range" and set a distance about 20% below your optimal (or your preference). This holds true especially for neutron blasters, since their tracking is quite awful

mmmmm
Neutron blaster are sucking your capa without Nosfe or other regen mod. and ion have a better tracking than Neutron.
my classical setup:
3 Light ion blaster T2 + E5 Nosfe MWD + Web + Scramble Micro aux power core + cap power relay + small armor rep T2
if you have enought money to loose this ship + fitting, use a Magnetic stabilizer T2 and not the armor repair.

its for that reason i dont run blasters anymore. Crows are arguably the most popular ceptor and a blaster setup will lose 9 times out of 10 to the faster crow. Even if u web him, he will web u and run away.
