Well first ship I bought was a Bantam, not bad for 20k isk but Im ready to move up, Im thinking a merlin for now and a badger for mining, eventualy like everyone elsid love to fly one of the realy big BS not sur wich of those to lwork towards either , any way is the Merlin worth 200k or should I be looking at something else?

For mining u want a probe. Its a different race I know but trust me, its worth it.

Seeing as you are Caldari, I would definitely say the Merlin is THE frigate ship to have.
Frigate for frigate I've never lost a match up, to NCP (naturally) and the couple of player skirmishes I've had (Rifter and a Kestrel)
If you go this one, concentrate on your Small Hybrid and Rapid Firing skill set. Throw in Motion Predition and you'll be a tougher than average customer in the safer systems, IMO. Use Neutron Blasters or if you like long distance jousting try missiles too - the Merlin houses two launcher slots.
The Badger I and II, I only would use for trading. You can only fit one Miner 1 on them and it hasn't got a drone bay.

The Incurus is pretty good as well, some of my corp members use it. When you can afford a cruiser you should go Vexor -> Thorax, pick up some harvester drones as well. (30m3/60sec)

i agree - merlin good - ps if you want to buy one see me ;)
merlin good for fighting.
if you want trade / mining ship, probe or imicus is best.
