I think its safe to say everyone (with a tad of explanation) could back up their own BM's and copy them between installations.
I can't think of any obvious exploits this could bring, but then again ive only spent about a minute of thought on it.
However, I did like Oveur's idea in the last devchat about taking BM's out and putting skills and modules in the game that make you jump more accurately. I would be on board with that. Just so long as you leave us carebears some way to combat the gate gankage.
Taking BM's out immediately would be a pirates dream come true though. But half the carebears on the server would probably stop playing the game from all the death and destruction.
What do you all think?
By the way, discussing keeping or removing BM's as a whole is kinda pointless. EVERY pirate is gunna want them removed, and EVERYONE who isn't a pirate is going to want to keep them. It's pretty much as black and white as that.
In my own personal opinion, I hate to see 95% of the action in this game revolving around gates. Frankly I think it would make more sense, and add more to the game to be able to find people inside systems somehow. The idea of going through a gate, and then on the other side "WHAM", your dead is just gimpy to me. Ive played alot of online games, and I don't think ive ever seen PvP that short sighted or "gankish". Well, maybe WoW, but theres no death penalty there, so theres really no comparison to be had.
Maybe a skill so you can scan for people on the other side of the gate or something. I dunno, the whole "Click jump and see if your dead" is just kinda sucky in my opinion.
The main problem with keeping bm on the client side is the possibilityą the definite and enviable factą that people will start to enter there own bmą anyone with can do trig and has a basic understanding of 3d math with a calculator and a bit of thoughtą not to mention that nice excel spread sheet of where everything is in a system (if it is accurate)ą could make bm to anywhere on they flyą hell some one could even make a program to generate them automatically :P ą it would also defeat the purpose of scanner probesą approximate location enter coordinates and go ą while I think this would be really cool.
As I think it was Oveur said something like thinką I want to keep it skill based and not have itą well I canĘt remember but basically it should be based on sill of the character and not skill of the person playingą while this was said in reference to scan probes I am sure it applies here as well
