Ok. I buy the idea of skills such as "Skip Tracing" ... bounty-hunter-style ... to track alts. Makes sense and doesn't impose arbitrary or moral rules on my play.
Need an off-setting skill like "Money Laundering" tho

My thoughts exactly. I mean what alt problem ?
I have 2 accounts. 2 "main" characters, each in his own profession and 2 other characters. These other characters I use if I wanna chillout a bitt on my own, away from crop hassels.
Yes I also use the two non-mains for getting a quik overvieuw of de different regional markets, but does that mean I am misusing game mechanics ? I think not. Personaly see my characters of the 'family tree' mentioned earlier. Rp-ing calling a friend to look something up for me kinda thing.
Anyway. don't think anyone has a right to judge the way I am using characterslots given to me by the Makers.

Edited by: Mrmuttley on 21/05/2005 10:54:56 I Have two alts. One sits in station in 0.0 and recycles my loot cos I have truely awful standing with the local npcs and the other is a noob corp character who I use to chat to noobs help them on thier way in their first few weeks.
All the scamming / theft that is done by alts are also done by mains ( or might as well be mains ) Tenaj and Zeepo are just a couple among many.
One that people seem to have a real problem with is "Forum Warrior" alts. This IMHO is the lamest excuse for complaining about alts. All too often you here people say "If you weren't an alt I'd war dec your corp" For something said on a forum post I doubt it somehow but if you did so what.
/Edit that didnt read quite right when i read it back. End of the day the forum has rules enforced by mods about spam/profanity/trolling. Also I dont have a problem with people who want to keep the forum war seperate from the game.
The only real alt problem I see is Kestrel ganking alts. Rod thinks 9 alts in the life of an account I say change that to 5 a year and then I agree. Alternatively some method where an alt is created with the average sec status of all the recycled characters ever on the account.

1. allow players to only join one corp per account. They cannot even join the starting newbie corps, but they can pull newbie missions.
So they are either allied with the main's corp, or Corpless.
WOuld also help corp managers who don;t have to worry about getting a "spy" into their corp.

...one of the worst ideas i've seen in a while. what if i want one of my chars in my corps main corp, and another in our pvp corp? or in some other pvp corp? or i have 2 completely seperate corps and want to keep in touch with both? or i need to be in a certain corp to be safe in a section of 0.0? what if i want to be able to help out the newbies? or if you want your main char in one corp, and an RP char in another? it also doesnt stop the spying entirely - just have your main leave his corp for a few days. or use a different account.
what might work (but doubtless has drawbacks) is whenever you join a corp with a char, it will warn the corp that you have charactors in other corps. wont tell you anything about them, just they exist in a player corp, or have had in the last 30 days. the corp they are joining will then know if theyre a n00b or not, and may choose to request a screenshot of char select screen, or similar. basically, i dont want anything done that would mess up using alts for RP purposes.

I actually see no problems with alt characters, unless used to scam or steal for the main. Using logic and IC deduction, this means the alt character was working for the main. Therefore a trail would exist linking the characters.
Since there is no reason a total stranger would give anyone millions of ISK, the link between main and alt would have to be there, either as a relative or hireling. Knowing this, the link should be findable, with Crimminal Connections, or new skils added to the game.
In a universe where Concord is so strict about other actions, I find it incomprehensible that con games and outright theft means little to them. They are supposed to be the galactic police force, why is it they will not arrest and imprison criminals? Why is it that in such a technologicly advanced universe, cargo hangers do not have security cameras? Why is it that if you corner a hanger thief in your station, you can not send marines to apprehend them?
Alts caught in the act should be imprisoned and the recycle time set to 1 year.

force everyone to have there login name in forums not thier ingame main or alts.
Will slove alot of ninja flaming.
Another way to solve this is to list yoru main under post and in smaller letters under your 2 alts.
yes you can change your alts in the hrs deletion, but at least you know players current alts.
if people have more than 1 paying account, that really wont be a prob.
oh brilliant, ecpose the login name so others can try to hack in the password and steal accounts loot and isk....truely you thought hard on this...

Very bad idea, you kill any intelligence gatehring and some people use "alts" to role play. Some corps are also devided among several corps, you'll hurt them. If your careful, you can minimize the risk of corp thiefs. If you are clueless on how to do this, convo me ingame and for a small consulting fee, ill advize your corp on several methods for reducing the likely hood. ------------------------------------- Quantum Industries

I have read some of the replies and got the general idea. i am agaist this Idea. for instance you are at war with another corp you are in as your main and you enter yulai or amarr and that system crashes and your main is stuck. you log in as you Alt who is in a neutral corp but the people you are at war with as your main see you and destroy therefore stopping you playing the game if your alt is not highly trained or has lots of money. and also your account can be used in 3 ways i.e. 1 char missioning, 1 pirating and one as a spy.... spying with an Alt is not agaist the rules. so why would you want to stop a major part or 0.4 - 0.0 playing by having a flagh saying "HELLO IM AN ALT". this is just my opinion.
