During the evening, when I help in the Rookie Help channel and give away ISK to newbies... I'm seeing at least one "hello, I'm new" every 10 minutes. I have never seen this kind of growth before. Is there new advertising going on?

There are plenty of new names doing level 1 missions and in the Caille Uni channel - 123 names right now which is high for this time of day.

Schools are ending and people are gettings summer vacations and probabaly feel (and parents let) trying eve now that they have time.

I've heard about that too--many are talking about how SWG has gone down the tubes. In addition, I saw over 1000 people on Rookie Help at one point over the past week

It's simple, people are prolly like me. Played eve, left eve, played WoW, maxxed out 2-3 lvl 60's in a few months and realized World of Warcraft is mmo's dumbed down to make it mainstream, thus too easy for hardened mmo players who have been around since UO, and they are coming back to a game that truly takes thought.
I know I'm telling everyone who will listen about it.

Well i'm guessing they are seing the light and crossing over from SWG as it clearly sucks more than usuall now!!

I'm seeing quite a few beggars show up in the racial channels too. (Funny to see a minmatar newb begging in the amarr channel)

i've been here just under a month now, i quit SWG and seen the Sci-Fi channel advert...thats how i ended up here... Also i've recommened it to 4 of my friends, 3 are on trial and one just subscribed :)

I reckon give to a poor newb - if i see they are newbies (dont know about alts) but anyone in that been here for 3 weeks (forget giving to the trial players - only give to paying members lol) they will repay you one day in some form or another good or bad lol.
3 weeks - 2 months slip em a few million or even a few thousand ISK it all helps - better still take youre ship into high sec space if you havent got a dodgy sec rating and help em out by blowing stuff up and letting em loot. Or do some mining and drop a can for em to go and ore theive over - even name it - ore theives here -

Kudos to CCP for constant advertising on the internet and mags.
About WoW level 60. I've heared that they want to introduce above level 60 thingies.
So that you can join an army and all.
WoW just is a short-term RPG you enjoy for like a year and Eve is a long term one you prolly can play for about 5 to 10 years and finally get that big mofo ship you dream about.

People are coming from WoW, since it has an endgame, but does not really have an interesting endgame. Same few mobs over and over until you get the drop you want.
UO continues to lose people, and probably a few people coming from there, as Eve is the one of the closest representation to old UO
And most MMO's are exactly the same EQ clones. DAoC didn;t do anything but Add PvP to the EQ set up, WoW taking parts of EQ and DAoC, and making them one game.
Only one that really offer a unique experience is Eve, since it is unlike any other game.

Been sitting in the Rookie Help channel a bit and the number of new players is astounding - When I went to log on eve, 600 of the max 800 trial accounts online at a time were being used.
Perhaps that limit should be removed for a while?

Wow, you hit the nail on the head with this statement. After spending 4 months in a molten core and doing everying(sadly not very much) that the game had to offer I decided to come home :P.
Kinda amazed at how much Eve has changed. T2, Exodus, acceptable agent missions, and actually seeing people using battleships other than the scrop. Simply amazing.

Heck, I was impressed enough with the fact that I was getting an ERROR MESSAGE every five seconds and that my framerate was smooth.
