I think the title says it all, i've been MIA for the past 8 months. I'm now arboring thoughts of getting my butt back into a pod.
I need a good incentive though, so post away with your ideas as to why i should be coming back to this void filled universe.

In all honesty, I would say: try out some other game for a few months until COSMOS and NWO are finished (was COSMOS the one that will improve 0.0?). Eve should be much more interesting then. Use the time to train the crappy long level 5 skills you never bothered with before.
If you don't want to play another MMO, take up a martial art or a new sport or something cool to fill the time.

Go play world of warcraft for a bit.
No, no hear me out...
If you've got eve burn out world of warcraft will seem great because it's like, the opposite of eve. It's quick, fun, fast action.
Then after about a month of that, you'll realise the community are idiots (like they cloned thousands upon thousand of Russo and they all came out a bit...wrong), the linear gameplay is so patronising it's insulting, the experience is as shallow as paris hilton, the lack of being able to lose anything makes everything you have seem worthless and you realise the only point to this is to gloat when you and your eight friends manage to kill someone and ***** when you're killed by someone else and their eight friends.
So turning that rant upside down and trying to make it constructive, you should play eve again because:
 The majority of people playing it aren't complete tools, either due to the higher learning curve cutting out most of the 12 year olds or because it's never one nationality like you'd find on a world of warcraft server.
Although it doesn't feel like it sometimes, you have a lot more choice on what to do than most games, probably because you're not restricted into any character type - if you're bored with whatever you're doing, you can just do something else.
The game is always evolving and has a lot of player driven content, both in the form of the new(ish) alliance system and the alliances that had banded together before that. Also, the roleplaying is getting more interesting thanks to the event team introducing more storylines and people like Istavaan Shogatsu (whether you hate him or not) taking things to a different plateu entirely.
With eve you have to work for what you get, which can be frustrating, but it means you'll fight to protect what you have. Although people have a lot more money in their wallets than they used to (I know someone who's personal funds amounts to 4 billion  ) there's still more penalties than in a lot of games for what you could lose unless you take the precautions (and you can't insure your cool equipment or implants).
Group and solo PVP in eve is really exciting, probably due to the reasons above, although eventually it can just seem like a numbers game when people quote kills at eachother, but it can have results when your corp/alliance win wars or you get revenge on someone who annoyed you...

EDIT: Oh, and maybe you could join a pirate corp if you was a miner before? I think that would make the game different

i really recomend leaving.
i have been 3 weeks away and trained 2 more race's to t2 frigs and has gone by in no time.
The game does suck atm, sucks bad and till they about face i recomend just droping in for skills.

hehe but seriously it depends what you are used to doing ? if your an empire player then you will probably like it... theres faction bs's to be had if your a mission runner. Mining is very profitable atm .. empire in general is the place to be if your wanting to make isk. If your a 0.0 chap... theres some wars atm... but 0.0 is pretty much empty tbh. If a player wants to fly through someone elses space.. they will. No one stops them
