Alright, i recently came back to eve a few weeks ago from about a 3 month break. So, i decided i didnt like my portrait and payed the 10$ fee to switch it with another char, it said transaction successful after i put everything in and noticed it said "this may take up to 24 hours." I was fine with that, but its been 3 days and im wondering if i've wasted my money or something is screwed up, anyone have this problem?
Edit: just saw it is changed on forums, but when i log in eve, its the old one |

That's cause your potrait is cached client side, it will get updated automatically at some point ( don't know how long that takes, but can be a while ), you can however remove your potrait from your cache and it will insta update.

Can you explain exactly how to do that for me? I am rather computer impaired.

If it's your browser cache will ctrl + f5 work?
or just clearing it altogether.
If it's the eve client cache I guess you could clear the \pictures\portraits folder in your cache.
Which PA character are you?

Hrm. When I changed my portrait, I got the new one in game 3 hours later. But now, half a year later, I still have the old one on the forums.

It's been almost a year since I edited my portrait and althought it change in-game after 24 hours, it's still the same old on in forums.
The process of changing portrait should include the transfert of the new portrait to the web server.

Mine never changed in the forums despite several complete purges and a computer change.
It's a case of Gros Misinformerama vs The People.

Mine never changed either. It changed in game fine after I cleared the cache folder in the eve directory, but I have cleared my internet temp files/cache several times since, the most recent being a week ago, and it still hasn't changed. And that was about a year ago too.
What annoys me more is that they posted they would fix this a couple of months ago. It seems that most peoples character images have changed now that I know have changed, like people in my corp etc, but mine hasn't. And some of these people changed their poartraits after I did too. And the old character that has the poartrait I currently have on the forum doesn't exist any more, I deleted it about a month after it changed.
Can it be so hard to get the avatars on the game, and the ones on the forum to match up? I know there is a lot, but copy/paste works wonders sometimes. Any plans on another cleanup for forum users, or a better system that auto-syncs the avatars as they change in the future?

My portrait updated when there was a server switch (new portrait rendering machine for the forums). Petitioned it a couple of times before that though, the GMs told me it could take up to two weeks for a portrait to change and that they'd try to hurry it up a bit.

I have a further problem with the portrait swap. It didn't swap the portraits, but it did swap the name. I don't think I have ever heard of anyone having this problem before. I have sent an email to support, I hope someone can help me out with this.

The reason you still have your old face in EVE is because EVE has a copy of Rehpyk's face on your client.
Basically, the EVE client just checks if you have a face, and if you don't it downloads your CURRENT face from the EVE server. When it next logs in, it checks if it has a copy of your face. It does, so it doesn't download your NEW face. All the EVE client cares about is whether it has a copy of your face or not, not whether the face is up to date.
You have to delete your old face from your cache file. A (crude) way of doing this is to delete the entire cache file. A bit extreme, because you lose all your options, settings, and everybodies elses face, just to change your own.
Instead, go into the EVE\cache\Pictures\Portraits file and delete these 4 files;
1314425451_64.dds
1314425451_128.dds
1314425451_256.dds
1314425451_512.dds
That will delete your face. Next time you log in, the EVE client will look for your face and if it doesn't find it (which it won't) it'll download your NEW face.
Of course, anyone who has a copy of your old face will have to do the same if they want to see your new face, but... *shrugs*
