Hey I'm extremely new to this game and need some help. With the help of Google and you great people in the community I now sort of understand the basics of ship stats and stuff. Now I know there is no ultimate one ship for anything, but if you could maybe give me your own opinions or at least narrow it down to ship class that would be great. So my friend has a mining ship and my job is supposed to be to protect him. We will be in low sec or possibly null sec space and I will most likely be alone in the battle. I have relatively low skill, but I'm alright working towards a ship. I'd rather be recommended a better ship I can use in the future than an OK one I can use now. Anyways, what ship or at least class of ships would be best for this kind of situation? And whats a good fitting for that ship? Thanks! |

New T1 Cruisers are the ****, and I suggest training for them. You can't go wrong with any of them (depending on your play style) They are easy to train into and the supports are fairly quick to get. They are cheap and pack a punch. Msg me if you are looking for a particular fit or ship type. |

Start with frigates and work your way up.
The T1 crusiers atm are pretty strong, it would help if you said what race you were. |

If you will stick with Gallente, which is a very strong race for solo and small gang pvp, aim for either Thorax (bonuses to guns) or Vexor (bonuses to drones and guns).
Both commonly use T2 Medium Blasters and T2 Medium Drones, as training goals for a few months. Vexor can even use Heavy and Sentry Drones, but they are almost a month each, and mediums are better choice for many situations where T1 cruisers are used.
While you work your way there, you'll do fine with the frigates Incursus (guns) or Tristan (drones), and bit later destroyers- Catalyst for guns, and Algos for drones. As you can see, there is a pattern here :)
Finally CCP completed Gallente drone ship progression! I tried to remove this sig. |

This man is dropping truth bombs all over you!
The incursus is by far my favorite solo frig. Ask any FW guy and you will have a double rep Incursus fit that refuses to lose. The skills requires to fly this fit with any aptitude will immediately transition you into the Thorax, which is also my favorite cruiser at the moment (mostly due to flavor, my Moa is out performing). This all makes me really happy because I feel that the Gallente Battleship line doesn't get the props it deserves. With is easy ascension through these over-performing frigate and cruiser hulls, I hope to see more boss Hyperions brawling it out. Because, really, who isn't tired of seeing the Napoc rule the battleship scene?

My advice is don't let your friend take his mining ship to low sec.
There is nothing worth mining there and you will certainly not be able to protect him.
If anyone in low sec sees a mining ship on scan, they run their hands together and start excitedly jumping up and down like a small child on Christmas Eve.
If you want to mine as a new player, do it in high sec.
If you want some PVP action as a new player join Factional War (FW) or Red vs Blue.

Or just mine in a venture and enjoy risk free mining almost. |

I realize some people think this is bad form, but I took a moment to go look at your killboard over on EvE kill. Do you really think you have the experience to call the Amarr ships bad, especially in this iteration? It's fine to nano-fit your Omen's, many people are doing so, but it's not exactly the way the ship is meant to be flown. Losing two Shield Buffer Omen's to a blob with logi is one thing, but then turning around and calling the whole Amarrian ship line bad is another. |
