I was just gunned down... but I could not return fire, when I locked on him and tried to fire my weapons a screen came up asking if I wanted to commit a crime or not. I said no, and died for it. He killed both my frigate and my capsule and I am still relitivly mew... And I know that I was being shot at as my shields went down.
Here is what was sent to me:

I am just wondering if anyone knows why the criminal screen went up?

It is just a warning to make sure you don't accidentally commit a crime in high sec space, unfortunatly for you it popped up for the first time at a rather inconvienent moment 
You should be able to disable it by clicking the check box so it will not pop-up again next time.

Next time ur in 0.0, lock a gate and shoot it. It wil lgive u that option again. Click YES and tick don't ask me this again. Then, next time you won't have to worry about it. If it makes u feel any better, Your frigate wouldnt not have been able to do a serious amount of damage before he killed you.

also should mention that 0.0 is completly unsafe and their are no ramifications for shooting someone there. Thats why it is best to avoid 0.0. also in .1-.4 you can still be shot at for a hit to the persons sec status and possible attack by sentries. So if i were you i would stay in .5+ for awhile.

All space is safe if you want it to be.
But as a new player it is usually best to avoid 0.0-0.4 until you fully understand what you will find there. Sometimes tho, the best way is to experience it.

That also works in 0.5 and above aswell. 
But some safe 0.0 systems to try that in is ec-p8r, pf-356 or Hed-gp. All the other places are camped alot.

A few months ago that one would have been worth a bit, but since exodus came in with the new ship session changing another few of me are floating around :o(. Barely have a chance to even try to warp anymore because of the loading.

Yeah I know how that can be, ask Slacker Industries about all the people who's 3 seconds of loading time once their ship popped caused them to fall victim to my Podageddon 
I wouldn't sell corpses anyway, they're all special to me and I give them a good home
