Hi.
I just thought about an ingame tool where you can design your own ship.
A bit like the character configuration. Or like the tool from "spore".
Each faction with it's own set of "modules".
First, you choose the class (Frigate, Cruiser etc.) (specifies overall size)
You get some "base" modules to choose out of. (1? of 5?, scalable?, combine-able?)
Then you get the attachments. Split in categories like "weapon bay", "wings" , "hangars"
and perhaps a detail section with antennas, sat relays etc.
If you're finished with your design, the tool will check if there is already such a configuration and if not you may name it.
Exclusively in the universe.
Perhaps with the feature of copy rights : )
Then you get the plan, and if you buy a new ship this type, you can buy it with your design (perhaps with extra cash).
I just think about the limitation.
Perhaps 1 design - each class - max., per player?
Or you have to put in a request* which costs isk?
Either way, your design gets into the database.
If someone chooses the same configuration, he will see your plan and if he can live the name you gave it (*name check while request? by whom? or only names from name generator?)
he can buy it.
Further:
It could be skill dependent?!
Some of the existent skills included.
Plus the new skill?: Ship design lvl 1 for shuttles, lvl 2 - frigates and so on.
I just don't know if this possible to implement (at the moment). (the amount of configurations, not the tool)
But i thought it would be a cool feature. 
I would have fun designing my own ship, or even to see someone flying "my" class.
So if, it should be possible even for solo players, i think.

Tech 3 ships.

This would be a great idea for some other game that hasn't been designed yet. But it isn't a workable idea here. |
