Hello. Does anybody have any suggestions as to fitting a Thorax with...
http://eveboard.com/pilot/Lisabet_Ikkala
My skills? I'm obviously working on getting my support skills to IV right now. Gunnery V and Drones V are two that I'm looking at getting asap. |

Initially just focus on the recommended certs for it. They'll cover the basics needed to fly it at a basic working standard.
to fly it at a more competent level, just upgrade the certification levels from basic to standard+ |

Only train to L5 if you really really need it for something (example Weapon Upgrades V to get Advanced Weapon Upgrades).
This is cheap meta 0 fit that anyone with L4 skills can fly. Small blasters on a cruiser ? Yes because you need to kill the frigates and rail won't hit them close. New NPC AI is death on drones so need to rely on guns. DPS is sufficient for L2. Chase em down and blast em away.

Hey Louis! Nice to see you posting here. Gunnery V is needed for quite a few things, as are Drones V. Drones V also enable the use of five drones at once. That's why I wanted these at five =).
Edit: @Kitty Bear - I am working on the certs as well. |

That's not a good fit at all.
Don't fit plates for missions, it adds nothing but costs a slot and fitting. Also I wouldn't fit omni resists, it's better to (right from the start) do it "right" and use specific resists per mission. have to get used to it anyway, might as well do it now because being new does not mean being dumb and needing hand holding. Apart from that I wouldn't go for blasters and medium drones, instead use rails and lights (also those blasters are lights which the ship gets no bonuses for, so it's silly). While official dps might be lower the rails mean you can apply your dps sooner (while staying out of npc range a bit meaning they hurt less) and use smaller/faster drones to kill the frigs, their faster movement also means you can reel them in quicker if they get aggro and you can bring a bunch of spares.
As such, for a newbie have a look at this. you just need to get used to fitting the right hardeners (which if you read on it a bit takes a few minutes to grasp).

Using an active resist tank is 'the right way'. Nothing wrong with a plate though, especially with low skills. My fit is intended as an 'easymode hard to die' fit. I already explained the reason for small close range guns and medium drones. Besides, most of the enemies in L2s are still frigates so small guns will work best. Use the mediums when close to a cruiser. Don't let those drones stray more than 10km or they will die. Best advice of course is to try both and seen for yourself. |

I have a place bookmarked for damage types. Is there a website for searching mission logs (for what kind of ships I will be engaging)?

There are a few sites with even more detailed information. Doing a search for: damage types EVE will get you the other sites as well.
Lisabet, one thing I'll add in regards to level 5 skills - they are super useful to have but when you are starting out the time to get them may not be worth it since you can be getting other skills to a useable level (level 3) in a fraction of that time.
Once you have all the skills you think you'll want at around level 3 or higher then start looking at bringing them up to 5.

They are good advice upto about Standard, then they fall into merely "guidelines" status as some of them are a little overzealous for skills needed at Improved/Elite Level.
tbh by the time you have the ships recommended cert levels sorted, you should have gained enough basic familiarity with the system to manage it from there for yourself.

Alrighty...I already had a place for damage types book-marked...I was inquiring about websites that have details about a mission and what you'll encounter on them. Sorry for the mis-understanding.

Sorry, for the necro, but it was relevant. Here's my current fit, I realize its cap heavy but I've been so close I was taking a fair bit of damage and was running the armor repairer for a while. I seem to be having some tracking issues though, I was thinking I could swap to 200mm rails, but then they have worse base tracking than blasters. I've got Motion Prediction 3 and Gallente Cruiser 1, so I know training those up could help. I'm just stepping up from a dessy, and unless in very close I never had tracking issues with it.

Try Dual 150mm rails and keep your distance. You have an AB, you dictate the range of the fight, not the rats.
Fight from further away and you'll take less damage because you won't have to close on the enemy to do more than scratch the paintwork
Oh, and train Gallente Cruiser. |

Switch to rails as the above poster mentioned, but first have a look at my turret tutorial as it'll help you apply your dps (be it through fitting or as in your case through piloting). Link is in my sig. Amat victoria curam. Excellence in everything.

Thanks for the tips. That video was very informative. I ended up switching to 200mm Prototype Rails with Iridium charges. With my skills and modules it puts Optimal at about 32km which is just inside my drone range. I still have tracking issues at about 50% of Optimal or less, but so long as I've got range I'm fine. |

I been using my drones till they start taking damage, pull them back to the drone bay... fire a shot(not even really hitting any thing) till they notice you then launch drones. Rinse and repeat |

Always put rigs on your PvE ships. No-rig ships are for things where you expect to get killed frequently and ship costs are a running cost instead of an initial investment.
Capacitor Control Circuits are my go-to rigs when I can't think of anything else the ship needs help in, as they reduce the need to fill my mid slots with cap rechargers. Second choice would probably ancillary current routers, since you may be short on powergrid. Both are quite cheap and easy to find. |
